To me, the album as a whole has some real standout songs (Sleepers, I Never Wanted To) and a whole bunch of "fine" songs, but the performances and production are so damn good that it is more than the sum of its parts.
I really think it is the best entry level post-hardcore album. I guarantee there are people who listened to radio rock at the time, then found this album, and it opened doors for everything from Thrice, Thursday, Coheed, Fall of Troy, Circa Survive, Mars Volta, and who knows what else.
Now i’m listening to it again. I mean the intro of “It’s Far Better to Learn” and the transition into “Sleepers” alone is fucking epic. The majority of these songs are awesome. I love this record man.
The S/T album is one my favorites of all time and I blast it during races. During my last marathon, I listened to come close on repeat during the last mile bc it fires me up so much Despite how Cove left the band, the story of some random dude becoming the singer of one his favorite bands and dropping an album as great as the self-titled is very inspiring. You can feel the positivity radiating from that album
i used to post some spicy hot takes back in the day (thank god ap died, i was worse there), but these days im more than content to just logon and see what steve the badger says and then watch a thread burn for a page or two as a result
Love the description of entry level post-hardcore. S/t is very high on the list of albums I’d show somebody to get into the scene. Feels particularly apt since at the time it seemed Saosin were always stuck as openers and didn’t headline very often. that said, wild to me that Voices and You’re Not Alone are so beloved. They bore the living daylights out of me.
from the wiki: did an ap.net user reviewer write this? haha i like “it is best known for its lead riffs with delays and natural harmonics as a form of creating melodies”
Between ISOSG and Along the Shadow was 7 years which seemed like forever. It's now been 7 years since Along the Shadow which I feel like was released a couple years ago. ISOSG stuck with me more than ATS so that's likely why one felt longer than the other. Something something taking on 7 years.
trigger warning please when you come around saying stuff like that, I wasn't expecting an existential crisis stemming around how long it has been since Anthony returned to Saosin. I'd swear it was 3 years ago tops.
Let's all meet up for the 10-year tour of Along the Shadow, you know, 2 and a half years from now. Assuming we are still in leaving the house condition by then.
