judging the albums as a whole, isosg isnt any worse than dung beetle

It's so much worse lol. There's not a single song on ISOSG as good as the worst song on selftitled imo.

 

i dont feel strongly its just isosg does many things some bad and some not bad and beetle does mostly one thing and yielded two songs i care about listening to at all, im sure isosg has at least two too if i went back. ats kinda same honestly, it has some low lows also.

 

I agree with everyone that s/t is the definitively better album and I agree with you that it was a missed opportunity, but that’s half an album of great songs there (save for Nothing, I don’t care for that one). I’d add secrets safe, deep down, why can’t you see, and changing to the list of keepers too.

so yea, not the better album at all, it doesn’t sound as crisp as s/t either, but had it not been the note they effectively left on, im sure it would’ve gone down as a fine entry in their discog. It’s good-not-great at worst imo.

 

I'll take a samey album that does its one thing well over a more diverse album that does most of its things bad 99 times out of 100.

Secrets and Still Small Voice are rad but the rest could vanish into oblivion and I wouldn't bat an eye.

This TBS ranking is correct. And second half of ISOSG are the best Cove songs.
They were his songs. Not him trying to be Anthony like self titled. He has stated many times he thought the band actually gelled on ISOSG.
