You're Not Alone along with its music video was a massive thing for me growing up lol, seeing it played in rotation on MTV2 and Fuse was great
S/T and ATS are both good but flawed, in very different ways, so comparing will always be polarizing TTN is perfect
Beau has started a Twitch (of all things) that I check out every now and then - they're def working on stuff, but slowly. There's even a demo with Anthony vocals. But overall, I get the feeling 2022 would be optimistic, and it's not far enough along to guarantee it won't fizzle.
I don't think the Cove songs are bad in isolation. Musically they're pretty great. Bury Your Head is one of their best songs musically. Lyrically though it's a jarringly different story.
Saosin's Self Titled rules, it's the perfect gateway album to that era of post-hardcore. Not sure I would've gravitated to PTH's Kezia, TFOT's Doppelganger, Chiodos, or other post-hardcore albums of that era without Self Titled.
Saosin’s self-titled album changed everything for me. Changed my taste in music almost entirely, got me into bands like Circa Survive, Thrice, and Thursday, inspired me to become a drummer, and introduced me to the AP/Chorus communities Would not be the person I am today without that album and band
I was a kid that liked heavy music more for the instrumentation than the heavy vocals, so when I clicked play and heard It's Far Better to Learn and the shredding guitar in the bridge with Cove singing clean, it blew my mind. I had only heard guitar work like that with screaming vocals up to that point. I remember thinking, "I don't need to listen to music with screaming anymore" which was obviously hyperbolic, but it did help me realize my tastes lean heavily towards music with a lot of technicality with clean singing the majority of the time.
saosin self titled is definitely one of the most foundational albums for my music taste, and cove specifically has paved the way for some of my favorite vocalists ever (most notably jesse cash of erra/ghost atlas who learned to sing entirely from practicing his/anthony's vocal lines and only gets better and better as the years go on) that said, not big on dead american. cove's voice is very rough now imo
I hope Saosin’s inclusion in the newsletter is @Jason Tate way of hinting at a release announcement. I know they mentioned new material in the works for a lonnng time now. come on baby.
I wish for nothing more than new TSOAF, but any other thing with Anthony will be cool as hell of course! Also, his solo album might deliver! I've got high expectations for it after some snippets and bits of info.
yes! theres also a new band hes part of too. theyve played a track live recently. its sounds like off the wall post hardcore but poppy. excited for those 2.
Oh yeah, he mentioned a new band on his ig live! That's always exciting, though I don't know who's in the band or how's it gonna sound like. Thanks for enclosing some bits of info ;D
