This album gets better with every spin, especially as I pick up more and more of the guitar work and drumming. But now that Thrice is out, there's pretty much no way I'll listen to this again for months.
I was super excited for this, Thrice, and Architects this month. I'm loving all three, but this is my favorite. Still my early pick for AOTY.
5 is generous in my opinion. "The Alarming Sound of A Still Small Voice" is the one song I would say I love off ISOSG. "On My Own" is good as a remake of "Uphill Battle", and "Is This Real?" is pretty good too. The remaining 10 songs range from meh to really bad.
I like I Keep My Secrets Safe, Changing, On My Own, Is This Real, and Fireflies. There are definitely some clunkers on there, but I mostly think the album is overly maligned.
To play devil's advocate, it certainly did it no favors that expectations were so high after TTN and the Self titled.
I've been listening to this a lot, I think I played it 3 times yesterday. It's definitely one of my most played albums this year.
Those would be the first three I'd take from the album. I Keep My Secrets Safe and The Worst Of Me are the only others I'd consider as well.
My favourites on ISOSG are "What Were We Made For" and "It's All Over Now", mostly because they didn't sound like shallow retreads of the selftitled stuff, they were just decent pop songs. I also liked the grey ep version of Love Maker.
Really? "I Keep My Secrets Safe" was one of my least favorite songs. I felt like it was such a weak opener. It's never a good thing when the first song on your record feels like a throwaway track.
