Saosin - Along The Shadow (May 20, 2016) Album • Page 21

Discussion in 'Music Forum' started by irthesteve, Mar 14, 2016.

  1. The low, for sure.

Agree about it being kind of annoying that the song randomly cuts out when the second melody is added in. Don't think the song should be longer, but that melody would have been nice to have a little bit earlier

It's just odd.. Like why add it right when the fade out starts.. Small complaint though.. Already listened to this more than in search of solid ground lol

Second guesses is definitely going to be a divisive song, people are either going to love or hate it,

I love it, love the 4/4 to 3/4 switch in the pre chorus to chorus

I used to go on the Saosin.com forums back in the day and Justin used to communicate with the fans there. I remember him saying something about being angry that he didn't receive a writing credit on ISOSG. I don't remember the details, but it was either a mistake or some other issue that prevented him from being credited.

He's always seemed to be the more proficient guitarist (the Move Slow solo), and in the Come Close DVD is looks like he's mainly lead and Beau is mainly rhythm. Hmm.

This song feels the most s/t to me. I like it but it's definitely on the lower end of the album for me

On break it down podcast beau said he has always written the majority of their guitar parts.

Its one of my favorite songs on the album, which is kinda surprising. It being the first Saosin album in ages I was most looking forward to just hearing their classic sound, and the poppiest song on the album is one of the ones that keeps catching my attention. Not that I don't like the rest of the album.

While we're dissecting songs: what part of The Secret Meaning of Freedom does everyone consider to be the chorus?

  10. I would say 0:24. The second time they do it and go into that part at 1:17 is something I'd consider an extended chorus.

Keep in mind that this is just based on if I had to pick a part. I'm perfectly fine with a song not necessarily even having a chorus.

Yeah, I hear that. I initially thought of it as the 1:17 bit, because I'd argue it's the most anthemic part of the song, and it wasn't even until my third or fourth listen that I realized they only play it once. After that, I started thinking of it as the bit at 0:35. Now, reading your post, I agree with your assessment that it might be the bit at 0:24 -- and I also agree that it might just not even have one, or that it has at least two different ones.

There are some really cool song structures on this album. It's great.

Second Guesses really reminds me of Thrice's Anthology in the beginning.

Thank you, more posts like this one. Such a well written album musically..

I want to add I am having trouble connecting with it lyrically, idk it just seems Anthony's lyrics here are so vague doesn't it? Like racing towards a red light is about him leaving the band and them going on without him (said it in an interview) but reading the lyrics it would be hard to put that together

Im sort of appreciating that I cant connect all the dots lyrically. I kinda think this will be enigmatic [good or bad is debateable] which is how it was back in 2003.

My least favorite circa songs are the ones that are on the nose. This album is sort of the opposite

I am just so happy that this exists and that I get to listen to it. This isn't a ground breaking record, but damn they do the style/genre incredible justice

Same here, it didn't blow me away like I'd expected. Maybe that's because I expected something a bit different, so hopefully I could spend some more time with it, get used to it and enjoy it more! Some songs are really great! But I had chills when I gave myself a few seconds of preview from some songs, then when it went to full songs, it didn't bring me near that. I'll wait to from an opinion, I've listened twice only, and yet I have those 2 bonus songs to check out.

Took me about 10 listens to fully appreciate this.. From the drums to the vocals to the guitars every moment has something to truly appreciate

I think Anthony's screams have grown on me now. On first listen the parts where he's just screaming without any singing were a bit hard to listen to but now I just enjoy them.

I, on the other hand, have enjoyed seriously anything Anthony's done ;p I know by now this won't top Circa for me, but I'll be counting to my 10th listen in that case, and hopefully I'll appreciate it more :)
