I think they both have some of the best verses melodically Anthony's done since OLG. Also funnily enough I love the chorus for IIT and I think a big part of it is the guitar riff, makes the chorus really come alive to me. Also the pre-chorus for "Second Guesses" has something I loved so much about TTN that I wish more of this album had which is Anthony singing a really great melody super cleanly over the top of his screaming vocals doing their own thing. I feel too often it's one or the other here.
Also, tentative song ranking for me: 1. Along the Shadow of Man 2. Control and the Urge To Pray 3. Count Back From Ten 4. The Secret Meaning of Freedom 5. Illusion and Control 6. The Silver String 7. Sore Distress 8. Racing Toward a Red Light 9. Old Friends 10. Drinking From the Fountain 11. Ideology is Theft 12. The Stutter Says a Lot 13. Second Guesses Maybe?
Second guesses is just a really solid pop rock song, super melodic, catchy and fun to listen to. I really didn't expect any songs to be in a major key on this and we got two, it's really not a bad thing either
I will need to hear a higher quality version of it but I think that my only real issue with the album right now is the production on the screaming. There's a very slight layering/echo which makes it sound unnatural. I find that to be unnecessary as one of the greatest strengths of Anthony's screaming was always the very human quality to it. It may sound considerably better on a >160kbps version though. I will echo what everyone else said about the bonus tracks, specifically Along the Shadow. The title of the album almost makes it seem like that was supposed to be the closer also. I am someone who was very "meh" on saosin's works after TTN though.
I just felt like doing this: 1. Translating the Name 2. Some Sense of Security 3. I Have Become What I Always Hated 4. Along the Shadow of Man 5. It's Far Better to Learn 6. Sleepers 7. Control and the Urge to Pray 8. Count Back From Ten 9. Voices 10. Move Slow
Is that your top 10? If so am I assuming your number 1 is just every song on TTN? If not that list is unfathomable.
Haha, just the song. I really strongly debated putting They Perched on Their Stilts on there, but at the very least, I think TTN (the song) is the best thing they've done. (I don't like Seven Years. I know. I'm a monster.)
TTN is my least favourite song on that EP, haha. 3rd Measurement and Lost Symphonies are my two favourite Saosin songs. I'd take every song on there over anything they've done since though.
Since I'm bored, and since the S/T is better :) 1) It's far better to learn (the guitar work in the bridge of this song is just too good) 2) I never wanted to (Very underrated song IMO) 3) Follow and feel 4) It's so simple 5) Collapse (again...the guitar in the bridge..too sick) 6) Sleepers 7) Let go control 8) Voices 9) Some Sense of Security 10) Come close You?
