"5 songs ready" took me out. I have rock bottom expectations for this lol. nostalgia is fine, but y'all really still have faith in new cove saosin in the year of our lord 2026. Is this thing even coming out this year with 5 songs done?
As far as I know, no one has announced an album from the band this year. But the single's good! They want to promote a tour coming up with new music. New music from bands we like I think is by and large usually a good thing. I dunno call me crazy.
I’d just love if they toured more extensively. I figured this year might have a 20 year tour for the self titled more than new music.
i saw cove with SKSK a couple years ago at so what down in texas, the band sounded tight, and everyone (like me) was stoked to be watching SKSK but cove was not very good, he mostly let the crowd sing the parts and kept pointing his mic towards us. i will say he tried but he didn't sound as he used to.
Have no reason to think this won't be good. Biggest question mark will be the vocal melodies. ISSOG was a significant step down in that regard whereas I continue to think S/T had some of the catchiest hooks from that era. The other guys will bring it on the instrumental front, undoubtly, but I'm curious to hear how Cove approaches this performance wise.
ISOSG does have some sticky hooks on it here and there, I still think that album could have been something if it didn't have four producers doing the too many cooks routine
if anything them being so far from the album being finished makes me more glad to have a single tbh, at least it is new music
Good on them for the honesty in terms of where the process is at - were we just jumping to conclusions regarding the possibility of a new album coming this year or did they say that and backtrack? I think folks might be misinterpreting the 5 songs thing, I assume he means they are done recording those and have the rest written but not quite finished in the studio. At least, that's gonna be my copium for now.
Can’t believe Along the Shadow is 10 years old next month. May 2016 was a wild time for me. I graduated from college then moved across the country. Along the Shadow and To Be Everywhere Is to Be Nowhere were the soundtrack for that drive, and ultimately during that transitional period in my life. Those albums will always hold a special place.
ATS is a good album, but nothing hits like their self titled. Can’t believe after 17 years we finally get a new Saosin song with Cove. Blessed
Also, Beau said that 5 are completely recorded and done. The rest of the songs are written for the album, I believe, just not finished being recorded. The goal is a full LP but when? Well.. we've waited this long.
The only misstep of ATS is leaving the closing tracks off the initial release/vinyl. Drinking from the fountain is an all timer dammit
Wild thing to say when it's actually their most diverse album... by far. Not only it touches on every sound they've ever done, it also tries new things both musically and vocally.
