This has long been my take too. I was balls deep in Saosin from TTN, and liked the Capitol demos, but as exciting as the S/T era was, the songs didn’t stick with me - I don’t listen to a single one of them now but do for TTN and ISOSG.

Fireflies is one of the best Cove-era songs for me.

I can’t put my finger on it exactly though - I think in part it’s because the radio rock ballad of You’re Not Alone is so “not” Saosin to me. I know it sounds stupid but they just aren’t that band to me. Voices had similar vibes. Other songs are weird to me because I was so into the demos that came before them, and then other tracks are a bit filler-y (ISOSG suffers the same though).

I get it sounds weird though, given how loved and successful that record was/is. But TTN shits on everything else Sao have ever done, so to me they peaked before their commercial success.

S/T is more start-to-finish good, but the songs I like on ISOSG i like more than the S/T. Took me a long time to get to that point.

I don't think I like any song on ISOSG as much as any song on the selftitled.

I can't believe a band this talented sounds like this for a studio performance using in-ears

Does anyone remember the live audio recording of Cove's debut show, where I think he came on to sing I Can Tell? And it sounded absolutely horrible. I feel like it's long been buried now, as it wasn't even a video.

This one isn't even that bad! Comparatively.. The backing vocals make it sound worse somehow.

Those videos were some of the last, if not the last, performances to feature Cove in 2010 before he was kicked out of the band. Cove's vocal struggles for a variety of reasons during that time are well documented.

In terms of early stuff, videos from a show in Toledo on Cove's first tour with the band, are generally considered to be some of the earliest recordings of him (shout-out SaoBoard peeps). He sounded pretty solid then and sounds great currently!

Cove does sound remarkably like Anthony during some parts here and oh my god what is wrong with this lame ass crowd,
if I had seen them in a room this small, playing this song back then, I'd be talking about it forever.

I saw one of the first Cove shows, in a very small venue, and do not want to ever talk about it haha

I saw one in a tiny hot venue and I absolutely loved it. But I get everyone's arguments. To each their own.

i will submit this for comment:

i saw videos of cove and ant on the 2023 tour and it was like an alternate reality. yes i mean what it sounds like.

cove must have taken some lessons. and the other thing too.
