Those slower moments are really where the album hits its stride and I wish it would’ve leaned more into that overall. I was so happy to hear them expand a bit on that side on Along The Shadow.

 

Circa Survive broke up to avoid releasing something as boring as Along The Shadow

 

But Violent Waves exists

The Amulet is easily one of their best imo. That was a big return to form after two really weak albums.

 

Yeah The Amulet is up there with their Juturna - On Letting Go - Blue Sky Noise run

With more distance, VW and Descensus were slightly underrated upon release while Amulet was probably overrated. All are flawed and can't touch the OG stuff, but Amulet feels the most phoned in for sure.

ATS... I mean, I get it, it's not groundbreaking or super exciting. I don't think AG's effort on vocal melodies did it any favors, either. I still really like it for the guitar parts on most tracks, per usual with this band.

 

I don't even dislike it, but it has some of the lowest lows in their catalogue imo. It's just so obviously a major label CS album, you know? It’s always felt like a more straightforward, watered-down version of OLG.

 

Absolutely insane take, but I've never been able to get into any Circa stuff.
I was introduced to Saosin when beatle came out and then of course loved the Anthony early stuff, but never got into Circa

Closing/title track gives me chills every time

 

At Night it Gets Worse and the closing duo on Amulet are indeed incredible, then there's 7 other songs on that album I can only vaguely recall if I'm not listening to them

still a fine album on the whole just comfortably their least engaging to me and the only one that didn't really break any ground for them. VW and Descensus don't always hit but both are trying out some really cool new sounds and styles, and when they do hit we get absolute all-timers like Suitcase and Only the Sun

 

Imagine thinking The Amulet is “phoning it in”….
