I've been on my annual trek down the rabbit hole of Saosin demos. For as much as we talk about the albums, I've always thought it was cool that so many demos for this band have been widely available over the years. I always love thinking about how these songs evolved into the album tracks we're all familiar with. Some of my favs include the "Uphill Battle" demo: And this demo of "Sleepers" which is my favorite of the many iterations of this song:
S/T is a dope album all the way through, but it's funny that those demo songs from the Black EP ended up pretty much evolving into the best songs on the album too.
Feels like every spring I do the exact same thing. I ripped or downloaded everything I could find years ago. Glad to know it’s not just me - I thought I might be the only one!
For many fans sure, but they're doing it because they don't earn anything from the original recordings and getting the rights of those back would be too costly (or something along those lines?).
It's crazy that it's almost been a decade since Along the Shadow. Hopefully they can finally get some new music out soon.
Pretty sure all of those demos were on my iPod Nano back in the day from Limewire. Some great memories going back through those. I'm fairly certain I've sorted them locally on my iPhone now.
I get that, but for my money S/T is legitimately one of the most perfectly produced rock records of all time. I just don't see tons of people going for the self-produced re-recording of such a flawlessly produced classic over the original.
I agree with you and don't care about a re-recording, but it still makes sense for them to do from a business perspective if they can do a vinyl/merch/tour push around it too. So maybe they're saving it for the 20th anniversary and doing that. and also, what if Anthony sings on it?
No way (nor reason) Anthony sings on it though (my guess at least). Can totally see it as a profitable move for them, even if the original fans wouldn't be returning to it much over the 2006 version.
It would be cool if they just did completely alternate versions of the songs like how Motion City Soundtrack did for two songs off their first album. Wildly different interpretations.
Yeah I agree and it's going to be an one and done listen for me. Just explaining why they're doing this. I too wish we'd get the new album first, as it's been in the works since 2018 and I'm in a "I'll believe it when I see it" mode now.
Just listened through Along the Shadow this morning for the first time in a while. I think it has actually aged fairly well. There are more hits than misses for me, which was not quite how I felt closer to its release. I can't help but feel that Justin's guitar parts would have elevated the whole thing, though.
They're VERY different. They're even more different than the live versions of them reimagined. I have to find a way to rip them from the vinyl because I can't find it anywhere online. The only rips on YouTube were made private for some reason. When I figure it out I can send it to you!
this is so cool, but wow I feel like I need another version that doesn't have cuts every half second, it's extremely jarring to me.
I don’t think it was this bad, but I felt that way about the Come Close dvd as well. Granted Cove probably needed some autotune but all of the video effects they added were annoying. I was at that show and was pretty bummed when I got to see the dvd
