I'm so confused. The band re-recorded the whole record this year, and Beau said it was to get around licensing issues with the label. Hard to see how that will pay off now if there's a repress of the OG version coming out first.
I think it’s because they will get a bigger chunk of profit with the re-recording and can sell for as long as they like. The re-release of the original is a one time thing with most of the money going to capitol records (I imagine).
Isn't this the re-recorded version? I don't see an announced shipping date for these, so they might be preorders of sorts. I think the problem was that they couldn't get it repressed at all with the label, hence why it had never happened. Would be very, very surprised if this wasn't the re-recorded version. Also, they inevitably will do lots of limited runs, same as TTN. And good for them.
Color me shocked then if this is the OG version. Very weird timing like you say. SmartPunk announced this a while ago, as I think I was the one who posted it here, and it was just before Beau spoke about the re-record. Always assumed they were related. Weird!
I tend to agree, but who knows. It just seems like if the re-recording is totally separate and coming in 3 months, demand will be hurt pretty badly by this OG repressing coming first... enough that the hundreds of hours of work to re-record and mix the album wouldn't make a lot of sense.
Thankfully my wonderful friend got the fog one for me while I was in therapy. I wasn’t expecting to get anything. So excited now!
I got a black/white variant from Brooklynvegan. So glad I never caved and bought one on eBay for $400 earlier this year lol
