Fuck yes, so happy to have this band back in my life more regularly (or as regularly as Saosin can get) again. This band legit changed my life. Introduced me to absolutepunk and so much music I never knew existed. The self-titled album was the album that really sparked my interest in becoming a drummer Forever grateful for this band. Love Anthony and love Cove. Don’t care who the vocalist is between them. I’m ready for new shit
Revisited ISOSG today. I still find myself enjoying about half of the album (Secrets, Deep Down, Changing, On My Own, The Alarming Sound, The Worst of Me, and Is This Real) plus the b-sides, but the other half of the album is inoffensive and mediocre at best (Why Can’t You See, Say Goodbye) or melodramatic and flat at worst (It’s All Over Now, Fireflies). I don’t think the quality of the best songs on the album (On My Own, The Worst of Me, Is This Real) reach the highs of the self-titled, but they do come close (pun not intended). Still, I think there was some good stuff to come from this era of the band that got bogged down by poor mixes, label drama, and turmoil within the band. I’m curious if they’ll ever play anything from it live. I know Cove has gone on podcasts and has spoken highly of the album. The “I Call Top Bunk” podcast released an interview with him a week ago and he mentioned that he still really likes 12/13 songs on the album. Doesn’t mention which song that one is though.
there’s def a decent handful of good tracks, and they should play them live. I find the rest pretty innocuous too, even the more generic among them, imo sounds not unlike some other bands that are pretty popular around here for similar. I think it’s all mostly well written and conceived.
I’m surprised by your take on Fireflies, as I feel like that’s one of the standouts. The pay off on that is great imo. Cove mentioned on that same podcast I think that it was a song he was most proud of (I know that doesn’t mean much, but still). It’s All Over Now I totally get thought. Same with your other takes.
I want to like Fireflies, but it just comes across as so flat to me and I don’t think the song is interesting enough to justify its length. I think a better mix might help me feel differently, but I just find myself so underwhelmed every time I listen to it
yeah ISOG was always held back by the production. thankfully that’s not a problem anymore with this band since beau is pretty damn good at producing
Been thinking about getting that beetle shirt with the band name on the front corner and the beetle on the back, but I have a TTN shirt just like that from these guys so I’m might wait to cop something else
My beetle shirt should be here tomorrow! Hoping they have a stop close to me. Have only ever seen them with Cove once.
Wonder who they will have as an opener. The Baltimore date is the one closest to me and is the day I start my new job. Hmm.
Lol that was my first thought. Would be interesting to hear Cove on some Along The Shadow stuff though
Oh damn, didn't see the "all albums" part. Was kinda hoping to hear bug album in full so I wouldn't have to worry trying to catch them at WWWY
Yeah but Cove is actually likely to at least TRY stuff from all the albums.. Im less caring about him doing any of Along The Shadow and hoping they break out some of the good ones from ISOSG (Deep Down, On My Own, Keep Secrets, etc)
Asheville is nice. Right next to the mountains and has plenty of good restaurants and record shops. The traffic is kind of bad though
