ended up really enjoying this after a rough start. second half of the season is great stuff, they did a bang up job adapting Doll's House. and the casting for Desire is truly flawless, they couldn't have pulled that off any better. hoping this gets a s2 pretty soon!
just over halfway through and fully enjoying this. i should read the books of this i’ve had on my shelf for years.
damn now I wish I had the hardcovers lol. my paperbacks of Gaiman's are starting to look rough after like 15 years and multiple moves
Dream of a Thousand Cats is one of my favorite stories and I was worried it would be done with shitty cgi. Very glad they went animated with it.
whoa. has Netflix ever done anything like this with bonus episodes before? that's wild Midsummer Night's Dream when tho
People were complaining about Sandman being too "woke" back in 1992 as well. This is from the letters page of issue 41.
I liked the bonus episode quite a lot Dream of a Thousand Cats was... good, but something about the animation style felt a little stiff even though it was nice to look at. part of me thinks it was a weird choice to pair it with Calliope because Dream is so much shorter and the transition to live action is kinda jarring. but I've never really loved the comics issue as much as everyone else seems to Calliope on the other hand was a home run. probably the best directed and cast episode of the whole season, Arthur Darvill especially absolutely killed it. smart move to tone down some of the more intense moments from the comic but still make it clear that Madoc is an absolute monster. the scene with Dream and Calliope at the end was pretty powerful too: that alone deserves a second season. come on Netflix!
I have watched the first three episodes. It feels quite slow and more about the atmosphere so far, but I love Jenna Coleman so that was a pleasant surprise and I thought she was excellent in that third episode.
This was fun. I liked how episodic it was. I do think it suffered a bit because I found myself not really caring for Dream as a whole. He's just kinda there. Rest of the characters were great but didn't really find myself rooting for or against him. The episode with the guy who got immortality and then realizing Dream didn't intend to stand him up despite their fight at the end of the last visit. he was just captured so couldn't show up was probably my favorite, I think in no small part because it actually got me to care a bit about Dream.
So I went into this show knowing absolutely nothing about it. Boy, did I pop like a giddy schoolgirl when I realized that Patton Oswalt voiced Matthew.
I use Hoopla all the time. Seven digital graphic novels for free/month with your library card. Great for a poor comic book nerd.
I’m so excited for season two. Sandman is one of the best comic adaptations and Netflix shows. The Sound of Her Wings is one of my favorite episodes of television.
