Guess it's just me in here. ANYWAY, this album has some really great stuff. Unfortunately it's extremely ballad-heavy and nothing is even remotely as good as How Do You Sleep, but whatcan ya do. Still a solid album
the more I listen to this album, the more I realize this is an incredibly overlooked gem from this year. It's mellow, for sure, but lyrically it cuts fucking deep, a truly emotional album. There's so many clever little turns of phrase and melodies that might not be picked up on a first listen. There's still a couple songs on the back half that I'm not fully on board with, but there's some really great songs that I don't think are being glazed over. "Another One" and "Dance" are two that jump out as being pretty biting tracks
I'm the type of listener that, even if the lyrical writing/content is amazing, if the music itself isn't there, then it won't matter how good the lyrics are. (I know Craig Manning on Chorus is the opposite; he's 100% a lyrics guy, haha). I'm a much bigger fan of uptempo Sam Smith, so an album of mellow ballads is a total snooze-fest to me
@Ferrari333SP I totally getcha, I'm mostly the same way as you and I totally prefer upbeat stuff for the main part from Sam as well. I just happened to listen to this the other day on a long drive and listened closer to the lyrics and it's pretty intense
Love Goes continues to be underrated. Ballads, sure, but actually interesting and engaging ballads unlike album 2
heard some songs, very upbeat stuff. there's obviously going to be a few ballads in there but interested to hear the whole thing!
