still buzzin from philly last night. he finally played my home town. i saw him in dublin in 2023 and have been waiting patiently for the last 5 years for him to play here. go birds.
Ran through this front to back today going back to work. Wound up listening three times in a row, straight through. Just an all-hits, no-misses record. Posted in the Turnstile thread, but I think that record and this one are my dead heat for AOTY. Normally picking two records for my personal top choice feels like the cowards way out but this is the first time I truly can’t decide.
Yep, been relistening to this a lot with the deluxe edition coming soon. It’s just full of really good rock songs. The personal songs are as affecting as ever, and he navigates the more social/political songs a lot better here than in the past. Not sure why he doesn’t get more respect from American music outlets, especially with the War on Drugs connection on this one.
Didnt even make Rolling Stone Top 100. He needs a better american publicist (guessing thats who's responsible?).
Yeah I also haven't been seeing it, more surprisingly haven't been seeing it on UK publication lists.
I really like it, but the songs kind of all sound the same for me. As much as I enjoy Granduciel's production, it's kind of washing out the songs' individuality. The other issue I have is that "Wild Long Lie" just stops the album dead. Way too long.
Yeah, went back to this and it still fucking rules. Been hearing the new version of Rein Me In a lot of the radio too. Not sure on the order of my top 5 this year, they’re all so close, but this is definitely up there.
