Sam Fender - Hypersonic Missiles (Sept 13, 2019) Album

Anyone check out this album? Haven't spent enough time with it yet, but this song is absolutely fantastic:

Steven Hyden tweeted that it's like Brandon Flowers fronting the War on Drugs, which is very spot on. Major Springsteen influence.

 

Cant get enough of this album. The last few tracks kind of fall off for me but maybe i just need to give them more listens as I typically restart it everytime i get in the car.

 

These lyrics are pretty fantastic.

 

Was just about to start a thread on this— have been listening non-stop since Sunday. Those first two tracks are incredible.

Haven’t been this excited about a new artist in a couple years, at least.

 

Only listened to the whole thing once so far but it's quite good. Surprised there wasn't more discussion of him here in the lead-up to release.

 

Yeah this is a really good debut. His songwriting is definitely stronger on the more personal songs ("Borders", "Dead Boys", "Will We Talk") than on the political songs about society at large ("the tensions of the world are rising higher; we're probably due another war with all this ire"; I can't get through "White Privilege")....but it's nonetheless cool to see that a young kid getting a huge push in the British mainstream is writing songs with real depth.

The Borders is probably my favorite song I've heard all year. That last verse gives me chills every time. And the title track has my favorite hook of the year.

 

After his US tour, he'll blow up. There's no way around it.~

 

“Will We Talk” was one of my absolute summer jams this year. I kind of wish there was more of that and a little less of the Ed Sheeran-y ballad stuff that clogs up the last quarter of the record, but this is still a very promising debut.

 

His show here in Minneapolis next week was cancelled :( - some kind of throat infection/sickness or something, so he has to take off a few weeks

Found this though; quite like it. I like how he openly professes his liking for Springsteen and just runs with it in his music

 

Damn, I was getting really excited for the Boston show. Oh well.

Good lord. Just found this album. This is incredible. Will We Talk is perfect.

 

The sax solo at the end of You're not the only one....

 

God this album is so good. Hold Out is a great new single too.

 

Hook that sexy sax straight into my veins forever.
