I caught that, but it is the summer after the class of 2006 started, so it would be summer 2007. Still too early though. It seems pretty obvious she Googled stuff from 2006/2007 and went with it. Clothes, music, films.

There is a case to be made that Fennell is our worst living director. This was so deeply unpleasant. I still need to see the Waititi film but this is the worst film of the year by far.

Well we wouldn’t be seeing the films of the worst living director would we

  4. I took this as they’re so used to their perfect little privileged life, where bad things only happen to other people, that when something actually horrific happens to them they don’t know how to process it. I mean they’re all very clearly distraught, come on

I can't believe they did the villain monologue at the end. How could you not have pieced it together by then?

This and Leave the World Behind are my bottom 2. I have 65 next and I would watch that in a heartbeat over either of these.

  14. When a presumably straight white woman writes a movie where the bad guys are the only queer characters and singular person of color it's certainly worth at least examining.

Is anyone in this movie good though? I don’t know how you watch this and think there are only two “bad guys”

it seems like the perspective of this movie, made by a generationally rich person, is that the worst person in the film is a middle class kid who is desperate to become rich

    weird!

  20. It's not really that I think the others are good, just that they're mostly hollow and just played for laughs. Farleigh seemed to be written to be disliked and Oliver was interesting in the beginning but devolved into tumblr nonsense. I don't care about good representation in the sense that the characters have to be good, I care that they have to be good characters. Which like yeah none of them but people are trying to call this queer cinema and it just misses that mark in so many ways for me.

  21. Imo they were all bad, Oliver was just a murderous sociopath with a lust for dominance. I don’t view it as an attempt by the movie to inherently tie those qualities to his position within the middle class. His parents seemed fine. Actively concerned, even

I was actually enjoying this as a sexy silly trashy fun movie until the last 25 minutes, which demolished any fun i had with it

this is why I was really liking it. felt like one of those trash movies from the 90's that I kind of love. Then it reached a point where I realized that wasn't the intention.
