We both like Killers of the Flower Moon lol.

 

It used to be easier to catch up on the trash with screener leaks since I really don't want to financially support films I know I am going to hate but I could just buy a ticket for May December or Killers of the Flower Moon.

 

Even the people who hate me the most probably agree with me on about 80 percent of the movies. People just get really emotional about the handful of differences.

 

May December isn't here yet :(

Hitting Prime on 12/22

 

Keoghan was great and carried the film. Rosemund Pike was also a real treat to watch. In the end, it feels like it suffers a similar fate as Promising Young Woman. It has style and intrigue, but the ending sullies the whole thing. It's obvious that Oliver is responsible for framing the cousin and the deaths of the children. The whole "revealing the master plan" to the dying mother was frustrating. It felt like Fennell just wanted to get to the naked hall dance ending and wrote a trite way to get there. It also reframes the whole grave fucking scene in a way that feels like beating a dead horse.

Still, I didn't hate this. I can't say I wasn't entertained. It was very easy to get lost in the lurid spectacle of it all. It just doesn't come together to be anything interesting in the end.

 

Gonna watch this tonight. Despised PYW so my hopes aren’t very high.

 

I will endure this next week.

Its bad!

 

Empty provocations. Not transgressive. Not smart. Just a really dumb movie that literally lays all of its card on the table because Fennell can’t help herself and then wants you to be surprised. It’s such a weird choice. This actually felt more like snobby reactionary trash that had more disdain for poor people than the owners of Saltburn (who in her defense she does portray as morons). At the end of the day whatever her intentions were this feels like a giant miss, because nothing really comes across on screen. Really odd stuff.

Is it more frustrating because Fennell clearly has talent? I think it might be.

I’d love to hear a different take on it though. My wife enjoyed it quite a bit.
