Didn't MacGruber come out after Superbad? That would be the comedy to try to top.

it was a pretty miserable viewing experience for me, but I was also hungover. Today I was not, I was just bored

This and The Flash are the 2 movies from 2023 I gave a 1/2 star rating on letterboxd lol

Honestly, this movie is so bad that I'd never trust the opinion of someone that thought it was good ever again and i'm ready to write Emerald Fennell off as a storyteller for good

Yes it did. So did Popstar. And I have a soft spot for Good Boys as well, which is just Superbad with even younger kids.

Step Brothers is up there as well. The Wolf of Wall Street is not a pure comedy but it would be up there too.

Superbad is very easily the best mentioned so far. That and Step Brothers. Popstar is getting very Game Night-y to me on Twitter. It was fine

Forgetting Sarah Marshall is so good, but I watched the uncut version recently and I thought some of it didn’t age well. I don’t exactly remember what is or isn’t part of the director’s cut, or what scenes made me feel that way, but yeah. Still a great movie obv.

  11. Love Forgetting Sarah Marshall, but I watched it so much in high school that I've kind of grown out of it a bit. Same with most Ferrell comedies, they kind of grate on me now. Still love Popstar though, some of the bits miss but there's seriously a new joke every 30 seconds.

  12. Office Space remains my favorite comedy, but that's a different conversation considering it's pre-2000.

We were eating as far as comedy goes in the Apatow boom in the late 2000s/2010s. It’s too bad Apatow pretty much completely fell off with “The Bubble” and really doesn’t even produce much any more.

Bottoms wasnt as tight as Superbad or MacGruber but i just want to see more new orginal comedies getting made, it usually takes a couple of films to really nail the writing and flow.

Loved Barbie as a comedy too

Apatow as a producer one of the best to do ever do it for studio comedy.

His directing career is a little more hit and miss

    “Fell off completely.”

This Is 40 was terrible. King of Staten Island was okay. I liked that Trainwreck allowed Bill Hader to be taken seriously as a lead, let alone a romantic one, even if the movie isn’t that good.

Ferrell/McKay were much better from that era.

    - No idea how much of this im misremembering -

Seth Rogan**(maybe Segal) was talking on a pod about how influenctial his time on Freaks and Geeks was, that Judd basically taught them all how to write.

I feel like it’s tough to even separate McKay/Ferrell from Apatow, considering Apatow produced their best stuff. Both had classic TV shows and comedies and all of them fell off to varying degrees.

That said, nothing has made me laugh harder in a movie that “The Other Guys” “Aim for the bushes” scene. Peak cinema.
