It’s fun. Don’t really care for “Good Graces” or “Dumb & Poetic,” but “Coincidence” and “Slim Pickins” were some surprisingly good folk-pop.
Not to pit two female pop stars against each other, but this whole album feels like the stuff Katy Perry wish she could write if she had a single sincere bone in her body.
I get the gender narrative aspect but arguably it's a more sensible playing field comparing pop stars head to head than say rock bands given the large number of shared collaborators involved that said virtually every katy perry song is sonic poison to my ears
I really like this. I didn't actually know what most of the lyrics were to Espresso and they make me like that song a lot more. Her writing in general is really fun.
Listened to this yesterday and I liked a lot of songs but didn’t think the sequencing was great. I was also worried about being late to work because I was stressed about my 35 minute commute jacking up to almost an hour last minute so I will reassess with headphones soon.
It’s gonna sound insane but “Espresso” is like the Casablanca of modern pop songs, there’s like 10 immediately quotable lines…“just walked in and dream came true’d it for ya” is 100/100.
I can’t think of a single Katy Perry song/lyric that contains any personality whatsoever. Sabrina’s lyrics might not always be for me, but they are for dang sure way more earnest than anything from KP
