I don't know how to word that without shitting on something that has kept them going for all these years, when so many of their peers fell off or broke up... but there's a reason (many) the originals are such well written and produced songs, you know? I liked a couple of their very first covers in 2012 or 2013 (jesus!!), but it feels like they're still applying the same formula on every single new one I stumble on, turning them into a generic package. This sounds totally soulless to my ears.
I attended one of their shows a few years back cause a friend didn’t want to go alone, and it was the worst show I’ve attended. Not from a talent perspective, but I just didn’t enjoy a single song. Not my thing at all. And I’d always get annoyed when a new pop hit would come out, and when I’d share it with him, he’d immediately prefer the Our Last Night version every time. Anyways, we’re not friends anymore, and I’m happy I never have to hear that “band” ever again.
I also don’t know how to say it, but with that cover - I truly hate that kind of sound of drums that’s used on so many modern rock songs that makes it sounds like a big programmed thud rather than something with some snap and life.
Loved her last album, but I'm a Jack Antonoff hater so I'm only cautiously optimistic about this one. Espresso is an unstoppable bop, but "Please, Please, Please" is nails on a chalkboard to me. Nevertheless bought my tix to the Minneapolis tour date! She puts on a hell of a show, but the last time she played here they switched venues at the last minute and I got reassigned a seat with an obstructed view smh :(
Is this the thread where I come to unashamedly admit Espresso is one of my favorite songs of the year? Stoked for the album, even if it only has 1-2 other songs anywhere close to as good as that one. also feeling validated seeing y’all also saying Please Please Please sounds very Musgraves-esque.
Saw her performance of slim pickins making the rounds and it seems like a cute lil country song too which is not what I expected from her after her last album, but I'm not mad about it
Is little sucker the best censorship they could come up with? I have to listen to the radio more than I prefer but it's so jarring
