I missed the Olivia discussion. I also initially thought guts was a lil too ballad heavy but after listening to the album approximately 1000 times, I love them all. Her lyrics are so relatable and I don't think what she has to say in the ballads is stale. They range from breakup to maybe being disenchanted Taylor Swift lol to the pressure of being a young ingenue and also beauty standards
Same! I usually can't stand this type of videos, more often feeling very half-assed or surface level. You can tell he's a Glassjaw fan because he gets all their intricacies down to a T
Travis Scott reissued a ten year old mixtape with some new songs and put it on streaming for the first time for real not joking
I hate that thanks to Taylor Swift our instinct is to think this, and also hate that it's a correct instinct
I feel like the Taylor Swift chart antics of 2024 are going to have a long tail in terms of how artists and labels maneuver for chart placements. And it's going to be annoying!
Taylor absolutely took these tactics to the extreme, but this kind of chart manipulation has never been unique to her
The real issue is that we've become so chart obsessed. It's actually ok if Sabrina's album is #2 it does not mean she's a flop. It's so weird to me that she could be #2 with 300k+ units, but someone could be #1 with like 110k and people will act like the person who went #1 was more successful
The charts don't actually matter or mean anything if it's all manufactured. If I were any artist doing this kind of schtick, I'd feel a little embarrassed about it tbh.
I've decided to not participate in these shenanigans at all. So stupid. No money out of my pocket outside of an initial vinyl purchase. The only thing that'll get me to drop more is something truly unique, like Glass Animals dropping a second version with full instrumentals AND stems to remix yourself. That was dope. Beyond that, I'll just wait for bonus tracks to hit streaming.
