noted, this is probably the best way to get into the genre then. do you like to bomb the music industry? outside of the ska which really isn't that huge a part of their identity, I think the punkier side is fairly in line with what you'd like. serious topics with humorous/ironic perspectives depending on the song

John James Ryan managed a bunch of pop punk bands (Four Year Strong, the Wonder Years, I think Transit too? anyways) and tried to enable and cover up the abuse committed by Harry Corrigan (of bellweather and I think some hardcore band) and threatened to blacklist the hotelier for speaking on behalf of their friend who was a victim of Corrigan. that's the short version

Daydream Nation is where I'm starting. I asked someone for a starting point and they said Teen Age Riot which I then found out is a song and not an album and therefore a bad answer but I went with the corresponding album

 

DN is the most critically lauded one by far

yeah bad answer but you got to the right place. I started with Goo, the album after that's a little more accessible if you're looking to keep going, but honestly there's so much to unpack in DN that I'd just play that for a while
