I also think one of the messed up things from Ryan Adams' "response" to this is how he and his representatives failed to actually follow up and be clear with Midnight Amplification. MA clearly tried to reach out multiple times to RA & co. to settle this but they just provided non-answers and slimy business practices. Don't really see how this is defensible imo
He sells one shirt, which is just a standalone t-shirt design. He doesn't sell t shirts with his pedal designs on them. There is a distinction to be made there. There is NOT a shirt with this design being sold by MA, nor any shirts with pedal designs on them, therefore he did NOT lose any potential sales over this. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills here, this IS a case of Ryan stealing a design, NOT a case of Ryan suppressing the prosperity of another company. Now if the dude wants to sell t-shirts like this, he can. But he wasn't. He lost nothing. Listen I get it. I can definitely see why someone would be put off by this, and I'm not one to tell others how to feel about anything. I'm just saying, your declarative ultimatum for people to stop supporting him over this seemed a little much.
Actually one more thing. I kind of change my mind because the argument that SHOULD have been made is that the dude could have been getting a cut from Ryan's sales. Those ARE potential earnings that he missed out on. I respect that. but that wasn't the argument posed so w/e Anyway, preordered the album.
I do think Adams was probably a jerk here but I was skimming thegearpage thread about this and I actually lol'd at these: Midnight Amplification Big Riff - Op Amp Big Muff V4 V5 circuit
another case of fans of a musician tripping over themselves to defend someone clearly in the wrong, good on y'all
sorry i was actually interested in news that relates my profession to a musician i'm familiar with! ack how terrible!!
I mean, you're not wrong but there should be a line. I'd think stealing would be that line. what a weirdly unnecessary post
It's just one thing to report news on the thread. I get that. Its a shitty thing. Maybe theres more of a story. Probably not. But to just continue to be condescending to anyone with an even slightly different opinion or to go as far as to call them a racism apologist is just asinine.
I'm not particularly dedicated to Ryan Adams but my bar for an artist losing my ear because they're not a great person is a lot higher than mildly screwing over someone who is guilty of more or less the exact same thing. I'm assuming none of those posts were directed at me cuz if you aren't feeling some schadenfreude upon seeing Midnight Amplification's side business as a gear cloner you aren't having the most fun day you could be.
I actually don't think they're both wrong I think the dude is in the right I think Ryan is very much in the wrong But I think EngineDown's arguments were wrong I thought I was being pretty transparent about that
Why are we goons? What Adams did was shitty. Pat called him out on in and I agree that it's shitty. Calling us "goons" is just dumb.
