Ryan Adams - Prisoner (February 17, 2017) Album • Page 4

Discussion in 'Music Forum' started by amorningofsleep, Dec 7, 2016.

  1. So this is his best record in at least a decade huh? Finally getting to it tonight.

Anyone else getting Bruce vibes on this? (Craig? haha) Like Tunnel of Love/Human Touch/Lucky Town era is what it reminds of the most I think. Maybe just on certain songs but I'm hearing it for sure

  2. Fuck haha.

I thought his band was alright when I saw them last year, he'll never have one as good as the Cardinals though

  4. Hahaha right hand to whatever's up there I hadn't read that when I made my comment above. Great minds!

edit: Good review man. Your writing has definitely continued to improve by leaps and bounds since I last read something of yours (probably well over a year ago if not longer, I basically don't read reviews of anything by anyone anymore)

I posted this in the b sides thread but I will post it here too. Bought a ticket to a show and got this email.

    "Dear Ryan Adams Ticket-Buyer:

We just wanted to say THANK YOU for purchasing a ticket to the 2017 Prisoner tour.

As a means of showing our gratitude, below please find a link to a free download of "To Be Without You" taken from Ryan's recent appearance on the radio show "A Prairie Home Companion". Featuring the show's amazing host Chris Thile on mandolin and background vocals, this very special version of one of the highlights of Ryan's acclaimed new album Prisoner is not being made available to the public to download or stream --it is available exclusively as a very special thank you to Prisoner Tour ticket buyers.

Also, Prisoner is finally out!! Hailed as one of the best records of Ryan's sprawling catalog by the likes of New York magazine, Entertainment Weekly, Uncut, the NME and more, Prisoner is finally available at any of your finer digital or physical music retailers or streaming services.

Ryan and the band are psyched to get out of the rehearsal room and onto the stage. Looking forward to some great shows this year.
    ENJOY!

P.S.: TO BE WITHOUT YOU was recorded during a live performance of A PRAIRIE HOME COMPANION with CHRIS THILE, a presentation of American Public Media. ℗ 2017 Minnesota Public Radio. Used by permission"

If anyone wants the MP3, here is the link.

Thanks dude, I appreciate that. I don't read many reviews anymore either. Mostly just stuff from writers I like or reviews for albums I really enjoy or am looking forward to.

  7. You seem to have learned the value of taut writing with regards to reviews that I never exactly found during my old days over on AP haha...s'up 4000 word essay on Modern Vampires of the City...

Ha, I definitely go overboard from time to time still. I just wrote a super long thing for the 30th anniversary of The Joshua Tree.

Is it too soon to say this is a Top 3 album by him? God I'm loving it.

Now that I've listened to it to death I have some new favorites. Doomsday, Breakdown, and Outbound Train are on repeat for me this week.

    what a waste of wood

Have never listened to Ryan Adams much. I enjoy Heartbreaker but really never even tried to listen to anything else.

Digging this though. I'm on Doomsday and I this song rules.

    Also so Springsteen it hurts

I would say his closest to this one would be his self titled album or maybe Easy Tiger.
