This reminds me of S/T stylistically but is a vastly superior batch of songs. Love it (on 1st listen).

Does anyone know, is his touring band this year the same as it was in 2014-15 or does he have a new band? Was not a fan of the band that he toured with for S/T, PALED in comparison to the Cardinals, thought they were so boring.

New band. Lots of members from Grace Potter's band the Nocturnals

Saw them at the Apollo last night. Thought they sounded like they were playing one of their first shows together haha. I think they're good though and should gel as time goes on. The Cold Roses-era stuff sounded better to me than the ST, as far as the band goes. They nailed a few jams early on ("Magnolia Mountain" and "Dirty Rain" especially). One thing I noticed right away, in comparison to The Shining, was this band had a LOT more energy as performers.

Super bummed that the Boston date is on my last day of class for the semester, and I don't get out until 9:45PM. Still gonna try and swing it. Can't pass up Ryan and Jenny Lewis, that's just unreal.

Also listened through the first half of the new album, so happy it evolved out of the self-titled sound. And so far those Tunnel of Love comparisons are pretty apt.

Okay, I've listened through the entire album several times now and I still can't shake the feeling I had on first listen that Do You Still Love Me? really doesn't fit with these other songs. Whenever I play the album it just feels to me like a decent one off song and then the actual album starts. I suppose it doesn't help that I'm not crazy about it as song itself. I guess if I absolutely loved it I'd feel a little differently maybe...

Prisoner through To Be Without You is such an insanely great string of songs too. I really love the entire rest of the album and feel like it flows perfectly aside from that one speed bump at the beginning. I know this is a pretty minor nitpick overall but I really can't shake it and it's only been reinforced the more I play the album.

I really can't wait to her those 17 b-sides next month. Knowing this guy, I'm pretty sure there are at least a few masterpieces waiting in the wings.
