that would be him or his label paying Spotify to give you that pop up. They can target you because you used to listen to him, but they also could be targeting "fans of" related artists too. Spotify should have not accepted their ad money.
Yeah, that’s my issue. Either Spotify accepted the money knowing he’s an abuser or they don’t research who they’re taking money from. Gonna send them an email about it
While we're at it, who agreed to distribute it? I know he probably put it out under PaxAm but who's handling distribution?
I think... Think that spotify has him banned from their curated playlists. Can't confirm, but I think so. Which makes this even stranger.
No, don’t think I follow anyone on Spotify. I did check and I never “un-liked” the songs I added to my library after I first got Spotify. But this is the first notification of this kind I’ve ever recalled getting and I have thousands of liked songs.
They’re doing it more and more. There isn’t anything you did, this is a broader pay-to-play strategy Spotify is implementing to maximize revenue. RA aside, it’s actually a very inefficient way for the paying artist/label to drive streaming revenue (the cost per click as I’ve seen it is roughly equivalent to about 300 streams) but their pitch is it drives broader awareness. Which I guess it did in this case!
I chatted with customer service. Unsurprisingly, they were unhelpful. But even more dismissive than I expected. Basically said there’s no one at Spotify who would discuss this with me. Don’t know if there’d be a better way to reach out to them. If not, I’m gonna look into other streaming services. I’ve heard good things about Apple Music but have never used it
apple music has always been better there was zero chance chatting with some 20 year old at a social media company hired by spotify was going to result in any information or action bc of this
Pretty cool that this record did EXACTLY what it should have. It came, only his Facebook followers clamored to it, it's gone. No reviews. Nothing. A start-up indie band would've had more traction on their record than this.
Annoying they started doing this if you aren’t a follower. I’ve only gotten these for artists I follow so far, but I’m sure I’ll start seeing them for artists I only marginally enjoy now.
Yeah I guess I just thought they might be able to direct me to someone over there who would at least have a dialog with me about it. Their customer service system is pretty atrocious. No phone support and the chat support seems like they’re just following a script. When I said I’d be ending my subscription, they didn’t even say something like “we’re sorry to hear that.” Basically were just like “Fine, do it”
Also this album came out two months ago. Not surprised that he's trying to mount a comeback, but disappointed.
Always a good sign when your "crisis publicist" refuses to be named & associated with you in your attempted comeback
dude really stays out here like a dipshit with his posts on IG fwiw i don’t follow him, it was on my discover tab for some reason. gross.
I keep telling Spotify to stop putting him in my Release Radar playlists, and they keep doing it every time he resurfaces with new music .
