I've always had a suspicion part of it stems from the Drive-Thru aspect and the demands I imagine they felt from a label perspective at the time, that sort of thing. Plus, that Steve Choi wasn't really an active member at the time, versus the role he took on in pretty much everything RX after that era.
They hate their two earlier albums even more than Progress. Halfway Between Here and There (1999) + Those Damn Bandits (1997). On one of their live CDs Matt kinda rips on some guy that requested a song from one of those albums. He basically said they are terrible and they can have the songs. They don’t want them.
I was wondering earlier why I haven’t gotten around to listening to their pre-Resignation material and this thread has reminded me why
Those Damn Bandits is not very good. If you like 90’s Ska you may like Halfway Between Here and There. Just don’t expect anything to sound like post Drive-Thru Bandits. Also think Progress is really good. But I’ve got a lot of nostalgia connected to that album.
Progress is fine on its own but when put up against everything that came after it’s pretty lackluster. It’s basically their Static Prevails.
I’ve always kind of linked Progress and The Resignation together. I think they really found themselves for …and the battle begun. Honestly, I don’t think they even care that much for Resignation but it’s a lot of their fans favorites and sells tickets.
New album coming from the Rich Balling/Matt Embree (and others) experimental project Pyramids, this time bringing in neoperreo and reggaeton vocalist Emy Smith.
I have an extra ticket to the Portland show on Friday at Revolution Hall. 21+ Floor. Free to a good home.
I will be out of town until Monday or I’d take you up on this! One of my buddies is a huge RXB fan who I imagine already has a ticket, but I’ll ask him. He is a notoriously slow to respond texter so don’t hold it by any means if you don’t hear back from me shortly lol
Out today. I think I am going to give this a listen, I jumped around to get the vibe and it seems pretty interesting. I tried a few tracks from their previous albums since I knew this was coming, but their older stuff didn't sell me at all. This one feels more my speed from what I have heard so far
Yeah? I feel like I've tried a few songs and they're all very chill and atmospheric and kinda formless, I didn't hear metal from what I recall
