That album was a masterpiece right away for me. This one hasn't hit me quite as hard on initial listens, but I think that's in part by design. That album was this big resilient proclamation of getting clean and sober and vowing to live a different kind of life. This one is about the quieter day-to-day battles to live up to that promise. I'd say it's the Something More Than Free to Dying Star's Southeastern. Which is to say, there's still so much I really love here. One thing that is interesting is how much he's utilizing shorter, more direct track lengths on this album. It's only one song fewer than Dying Star, but it's 11+ minutes shorter.
Yep, was one of my honorable mentions in 2018 (might make the top 30 in re-rank). Liked it a lot, never loved it. Loved (obviously) the cover EP. Love this one immediately.
Missed this call out somehow until literally just now haha. Incredibly hyped for the follow-up to Dying Star but haven't caved and listened to either of the singles yet, album release feels so far away. I'm a late comer to this dude too, didn't get into him til last summer or so
It is definitely not that! "Mockingbird," "Anchors," "Just for the Record," "Jericho," and "Dying Star." Those songs all really mean a lot to me, though, so it's definitely going to take some time.
I really hope Alive has some arrangement to it, love the way Brave is recorded but I feel like I’d want more from Alive
Caved and listened to the singles and okay wow I already think I'm gonna like this more than his last one (which I liked a lot but didn't quite love aside from a few songs)
New song, Radio Cloud, tomorrow. Going to take all I have to not listen until August. Edit: Nevermind it’s out Friday. He trolled us lol
Radio Cloud is indeed a gorgeous radio-ready song (pun intended). I don't know why but it's the second time that the beginning of chorus' melody reminds me of another song: Brave sounded like What Hurts the Most, Radio Cloud reminds me ouf AVA's Saturday Love (weird, I know).
