My brother is seeing him in Boston tonight and said this is the most excited he's been for a show since the first time he saw Bruce. (Bruce is basically Saint Springsteen in our family, that's a pretty fucking weighty statement.) Have seen a lot of great shows this year but not many of them hit me as hard as Ruston's did.
VIP in Boston was cool. A fan brought a guitar for him to play and he did during that. few bummers though- pre show playlist had brand new and 30 seconds to Mara on it, and he mentioned being good friends with All time low and wanted to collaborate with them. Gross.
Also- if anyones at the show, I’m sure I’ll be grabbing a beer afterwards in the area. I’m sporting a jean jacket and a something corporate shirt! Say hello.
Not last night. Just that they wrote the weakness a few months ago. He played another new one during the VIP session that was really good, too. He did mention that he wanted to use this tour as an endcap to this “era,” so to speak, and that they’d be back next year, so my guess would be we have something next year maybe?
im thinking next year. At least I hope. I was at Boston VIP yesterday too and I think I remember him mentioning something as Halloween, Dying Star and SaD as a trilogy, and it’s ending. Interesting way to put it.
Maybe there will a different approach with whatever follows. It is an interesting comment though. I do hope we get something from him in 2022. The buzz around the new song is positive and I hope it doesn’t take too long to capture that. I’m trying not to listen ahead so it’s fresh but I did look very full band.
He always makes his songs so much beefier live, which is cool, but I’d def be happy with that energy captured in the studio too.
As someone who has not seen him live I think id be interested in hearing a couple songs like that on his next record.
They’d be a good combo on a song. Katie and Donovan Woods song together is awesome. Bring on a Katie and Ruston song.
Yes, and they performed a duet on tour of I Ain’t Ever Love No One (a song from his previous record) and it was brilliant, so did a song together on his last record called She Waits For Me To Come Back Down. That tour was my introduction to her. No backing band and she was a awesome. They were a great tour combo. I’d really love to see someone like her do a song with Ruston someday. He’s got some Donovan qualities in his whispery at times vocal delivery that worked so well with Katie’s voice before.
