I get it; it's clearly not just you. But to me, this side of Ruston's songwriting has always been there. I guess I'm just surprised at the ire that song is getting, to the point where I've questioned whether people would be reacting the same way if he hadn't straight up said it was written to be pitched out to country artists.
I not find "Waiting To Love You" intrinsically different than something like "Mockingbird" so I'm confused by the drama surrounding it.
I usually love funny, upbeat, "Michael Keaton" Ruston Kelly, but this album is absolutely gorgeous. I don't think I was expecting something so direct and so tender, but I adored this on my first listen.
There's something pretty striking about the way The Weakness and this album end, staring down the road ahead – and the sentiment about the first steps down that road could not be more different. So happy for him.
The weakness is still my favorite so far but this new album has some of my favorite Ruston songs of all time on it. Unpopular opinion but I really love waiting to love you
Wife is out with friends. Baby just went down. Sitting in my backyard with a beer, my dog and this album. Hitting real nice.
First listen during a couch date with rain pouring down outside last night, perfect setting. Immediately liked this a lot, excited to have it on repeat during overtime work today. Me and You definitely pleases the 1975 fan in me.
My early take is that the first half of the album (through Twisted Root) is perfect, then there's a bit a lull, then Pickleball brings it back for me Not that I don't like the songs in between and they will grow on me
I get why people aren’t into “Waiting to Love You” as a single but I actually think it slots very nicely into the album flow. I felt similarly about “Half Past Three”.
I've really only seen two negative comments about it so we may me making something out of nothing haha
"Waiting To Love You" wasn't my favorite song on the album, but it didn't stand out to me in any sort of negative way whatsoever either
I had no idea about that when I made the remark about the song. There's plenty of ways to write a country song but only a very narrow tranch of that is permitted on mainstream country radio.
after a handful more listens, it's the weakest song on the album for me, but it's not a bad song. musically it's pretty good, but the lyrics & songwriting are kinda vanilla / generic in a way that so many of the other lyrics on the album are very much not I think coming right after "Twisted Root" & "Still" makes this a little more apparent too because those are both such poetic, lyrical powerhouses but you also kinda need to come up for air after that one-two punch
