“Half Past Three” is the only one that hasn’t landed for me, but I think the other two singles are among his best, most catchy and radio-friendly songs ever. Nice to hear him writing love songs again too!
None of the singles have resonated with me so I’m a little concerned but will still check out the album with open ears of course.
It's hard to see this resonating with me very much if it's gonna be a loved-up kind of record but I'll give it a fair shot even if I don't connect with it as much lyrically.
Real interesting production on this song, but love how big pop-country the chorus sounds with his usual writing.
“waiting to love you” has had quite the journey. Me, Jarrad, and Jon originally wrote this song to pitch to other artists, but at the time, the sentiment wasn’t something I resonated with. Fast forward, we’re listening to the resurfaced demo, and I’m sitting next to the woman I wrote a lot of this album for, realizing immediately THIS was the missing song that pieced it all together. and it feels super special to finally share this one with the world. I hope when you hear it, you feel a little bit of that love too. “waiting to love you” is out now
When I heard the clip the other day my first thought was that it sounded way too mainstream country pop and seeing that it was originally written to pitch to other artists it makes so much more sense now. I can't deny that it's one of his more catchy and radio-friendly songs he's released but at the same time it might be one of my least favorites after a few listens. Hoping it grows on me but it just feels like a tired PopCountry coded melody. Especially in the verses. Oh well. Still one of my favorite artists.
Definitely agree with what y’all are saying about the melody. Not bad but definitely not what I listen to him for
I'm obviously not at all allergic to a big pop-country melody, so I'm coming at this from a different angle, but I love a Ruston song with a good, memorable hook. I felt like the last album was a little bit lacking, melodically, and this batch of songs is sticking with me a bit more, especially this one.
I agree with Craig when it comes to the big hooks and melodies of these new songs. This album so far is much more memorable than most of The Weakness for me. The only thing I dislike about this latest song is the weird electronic effects at the beginning of the first verse. The chorus is huge and song is a total banger besides the beginning which I’m sure I’ll get used to. 4/4 so far!
@Craig Manning out of the four songs released which one represents what the rest of the album is like?
