Just finished. Holy shit @Craig Manning you weren't kidding with how good this is. It's been a while since I heard something that just so immediately grabbed me. Also, this is one of the sadder records I've heard in quite some time. I don't remember it exactly but in Big Brown Bus when he sings "I might die out on this road, and sometimes I wish I would" it just killed me. Very high chance this will end up as my AOTY.

 

Yeah, this thing is pretty much perfect. Wow. Very glad I only listened to the first few songs released.

 

His vocals in the second half of Paratrooper's Battlecry are unreal

 

Yeah, it's completely devastating, haha. The stretch from "Blackout" to "Just for the Record" especially is just brutal.

 

Mercury is ridiculously sad.

 

Had a few late night drives to this record over the long weekend. "Dying Star" is just perfect for that setting.

 

Can't wait to give this a full listen tonight. I've heard a few singles and bits and pieces of a lot of songs but have avoided overplaying anything.

Plus, I have a feeling this is gonna be one of those "comes out at the exact right time" albums and hits me hard.

 

I’ve been to several in stores here over the years. It’s a really small space, so I recommend getting there early if you want to be able to see at all. I saw Hiss Golden Messenger there last year and got there an hour early and I was in the front row. Another 15 mins later though and I would have been somewhere in the middle to back. It’s also awkwardly shaped so you could end up in a space around the corner or behind a shelf where you can’t see at all.

 

What an opening song. I'm glad I got to see him open for Brian Fallon. Would totally go see Ruston again. Great story teller.

Still haven't listened to this and it doesn't feel right as it's 100 fucking degrees in Michigan right now. Think I'm gonna wait until it actually drops on Friday.

 

Oh man that's more willpower than I had. I only listened to 2 of the songs beforehand but the second I saw the stream was up I caved. And holy shit it's good.

 

Well it helps that even though I have the SoundCloud app the tracks will start playing for 3 or so seconds and then go back to the beginning. I probably just need to update the app.

 

Same thing happened for me. Happened on the work computer too. Definetely worked on my personal computer though! It’s a really good album.

 

I tried to listen in the car on my drive to Dallas this morning and had the same problem. I was ready to hear it!! Gonna wait til Friday as well now.

 

This is hitting a very specific spot for me. Wonderful music, right in the vein of older Noah Gundersen.

Craig, excellent review. Not that I ever doubted you, but holy shit did you nail it with this album. He really did something special here. I need to spend a lot more time with this. This is powerful.

 

Pretty excited to get this on vinyl tomorrow. That's going to be one I'll spin a lot.
