So sad. I'm going to listen to a bunch of Rush this weekend, especially the newer albums that I haven't spent much time with.
Absolute gutpunch. Already relistened to Hold Your Fire, "Bravado", "Dreamline", "Tom Sawyer". Gonna be a weekend full of Rush for sure. "Lock and Key" doesn't get enough love on the list of absolutely titanic Neil performances.
Like any young 13 year old drummer I was a huge fanatic once upon a time. Was lucky to see them live once with my dad on the tour they played Moving Pictures in full + all the other hits. Was a formative experience for me listening to Grace Under Pressure rn which is one of their most underrated albums imo
Neil was a bonafide genius, and he will truly be missed. In tribute, I present my favorite Neil moment where he corrects the pronunciation of his last name haha
Grace Under Pressure is one of my favorites of theirs, Distant Early Warning and Between the Wheels are top-notch Rush songs.
I've been watching a ton of Rush content since Neil Peart's passing... various tributes, listening to old Rush favorites and live performances, Neil's drum solos... and just knowing he wrote much of Rush's lyrics... what an impactful rock and roll figure man... And in terms of drumming, Peart didn't just write drum parts, they were compositions. One of my all-time favorite Rush tunes is Caravan from Clockwork Angels, just unreal songwriting and musicianship. RIP Neil... I'd like to think he's up there playing drums with my dad... lost him to cancer as well, a few months ago. Just horrible stuff...
I've been on a leisurely journey to listen to every Rush album, a number of which I've never heard. It's been real satisfying so far. First record is good! Second record is great! Can't believe I never listened to this one before. Caress Of Steel doesn't do much for me. 2112 side A is great, side B is a little forgettable, Passage To Bangkok is pretty oof I've been on Farewell To Kings the past 2 weeks. I like this album considerably more than 2112. It feels like a sharpening of the sound from that album. Good stuff!
Here's what my final list looks like: Moving Pictures 2112 Hemispheres Permanent Waves A Farewell To Kings Clockwork Angels Signals Grace Under Pressure Power Windows Counterparts Snakes & Arrows Vapor Trails Test For Echo Roll The Bones Presto Fly By Night Hold Your Fire Caress Of Steel Rush I had a really hard time ranking their albums from different eras and I still feel a bit uncertain about my ranking haha
