Rush is a Canadian rock band formed in 1968 in the Willowdale neighborhood of Toronto, Ontario. The band is composed of bassist, keyboardist, and lead vocalist Geddy Lee; guitarist and backing vocalist Alex Lifeson; and drummer, percussionist, and lyricist Neil Peart. Here's their greatest hits album to get a feel for this prog-rock band.
One of my favorite classic rock bands ever since I listened to them in the car with my dad as a kid. I can't get enough of their technical skills and overall musicianship. I can see why they wouldn't have had huge mainstream appeal during their peak but I never understood why critics took so long to realize their greatness.
DUDE YES. My dad is a diehard Rush fan and got me into them when I was a teenager around the same time as he showed me his other favorite classic rock albums. It took me a while to really click with them but I've been a fan ever since.
They are an acquired taste but are a rewarding listen once you finally get around to them. I was a fan of their them for some songs but didn't really dive into them or appreciate them until a couple years ago.
Just gave Hold Your Fire a listen for the first time ever and am instantly in love with Time Stand Still and Prime Mover
Indeed. I'm fortunate to have a French-Canadian dad who was diehard into Rush growing up, so we own most of their albums and they were one of the first rock bands he got me into :)
I've been fortunate enough to see them twice. You haven't lived until you've seen 15,000 people air drum the drum break in Tom Sawyer.
Probably the same to be honest. Amazing song. My favourite performance of it. And 3:59 might be my favourite drum fill ever too.
Growing up my dad pretty much only played Black Sabbath and Rush. When I started playing drums around 14 he took me to see Rush because according to him I HAD to see Neil Peart play.
I just realized that when they stopped touring is probably when he was first diagnosed, since the article says he had privately battled brain cancer for 3 years. That’s so fucking tragic.
