shocked that they didn’t cancel it. Heard a few other races around Colorado and nearby states cancelled because of the air quality.

I know some continued because by the time they were truly deciding too many participants had already flown or drove in. Hard decision to make no matter, would not want to be put in that position as a race director (or whoever makes the decisions).

  2. Yeah I almost signed up for the 5k that they were doing on Saturday but the AQI was like 150+ in the morning so I can’t imagine how that was for those people. It was about 40-50 AQI when I ran and it was still noticeable. Tomorrow and Tuesday we’re supposed to get a “smoke cyclone” so won’t be running the next few days either now :(

Three days out from my marathon and I am so fucking antsy, haha. I've reached the part of the week where I can't really focus on much else. Should have taken a few days off!

I was just talking about this phase the other day. “It’s like I vibrated for four days straight.”

I do not know what to do myself. Going from 100-mile weeks down to this has felt so bizarre.

And knowing there’s nothing you can do to expel the energy because it’s purposefully building!

Absolutely wild to me the idea of running 100 miles in a week. You’re a machine. I think I topped out at 33 in a week, haha.

It was the first time I ever did it, and I did two 101-mile weeks in a row. I think in any situation it's wild how marathon training warps your body's sense of what is normal, but that was definitely an extreme version of it for me. I was definitely tired, but my legs got to the point where it just felt like they could keep going forever (as long as I was eating like six meals a day, that is).

By taking time off, do you mean from work? Because if so, NO. That always makes it worse lol. At least if I’m working even if not fully paying attention, it helps pass the time lol

Ha, that's a good point! It would be nice to just go read a book or watch a movie rather than be expected to actually be productive, though.

Just got the all clear to return back to my normal weekly mileage from the PT. Never been more excited to be miserable.

    Best of luck dude!

17km for me this morning and doing 34km tomorrow. Next weekend is my last weekend of training with 18km and 36km and then some rest before my race on 1-2 July.

Cheeky snap from the half I did last weekend too.

Good luck, Craig! Sounds like you will crush. I finally have a half coming up next week. First time racing more than 5-10k's since my stress fracture situation. Hopefully it goes ok.

Good luck Craig for sure. You're fast as fk boyyyy.

I had a great trail 50k+ last weekend in Kentucky. I knew it measured long, but ended up being 33.84 miles by my watch; about a mile longer than I thought. 4000ft of climbing but a lot of those trails were very runnable. Able to keep some good turnover for a lot of it. First half was mostly dry and the last half was pouring rain and felt amazing. There is some absolute BEAUTY hidden out in eastern Kentucky that more people need to see. All of it hidden away deep in those woods off the roads.

    Thanks!

OTQ for men is now 2:18:00 (we had two guys hit it at this race) which still seems pretty far off. But definitely inching my way toward the point where I could apply to be a part of the elite field at some marathons, which is not something I ever thought I'd be even close to.

When it gets real hot I run with a pack for water but running with a pack makes me hotter faster because I’m wearing a pack but if I don’t wear the pack then I die. Might have to start either doing shorter routes and circling back to my car to get water from a cooler or bring cash/card and plan my route around gas stations to get water OR somehow someway go back to doing super early morning runs before the sun is fully up (not likely to happen lol)

I wear this Salomon waist belt for a lot of my runs when I only want to carry 1 bottle.

Salomon Sense Pro Belt | Running Warehouse

Soft flask from the vest goes in the bigger pouch. Phone goes in the other pouch. Key goes in side pocket. Gel goes in the other. Very little to zero bounce for me. I use this for long races as I keep gels in the belt and still have water with my vest.

I am a big fan of circling back to the car for water stops when I run at certain places. That works out for me on 2 places I run where I can park in the center and run out from any side and circle back. Otherwise, its the belt life for me. (sometimes i'll take a handle bottle - Used hand strap bottle for my 10 mile trail race last month)

First week back outside after the injury. I am absolutely wrecked. It’s crazy how you can go from the best shape of your life to starting over so quickly.
