First post-covid run for me today - got through it relatively unaffected thabkfully. Marathon training due to start in two-three weeks which is probably gonna get delayed a little bit. Race say first weekend of July :)
About to go run this course again because I’m still mad about the 4 seconds. My training pace has me beating 2:15 by 18 minutes so we’ll see what happens.
Thanks! If I hadn’t stopped to pee (the line was still 40 people deep at the start of the race, so I ran to the first portapotties) and had to walk out a cramp quickly, I probably could’ve done 1:48 or so. Absolutely blows my mind.
This is the great thing about running. When what used to be your absolute ceiling becomes your floor.
I was just thinking about how I have no idea how people maintain much faster paces for 26.2. I left EVERYTHING out there today.
My first one was such a hilarious mix of emotions, from absolute euphoria to some of the most crushing despair I've ever felt. Excited to do it again!
Daylight savings ended here this weekend and the temperatures are dropping making for cooler running conditions. 7 and 14 mile runs for me this past weekend.
Not this year. My sister is getting married that week so it wasn’t going to work. Doing the same race I did last year, Memorial Day weekend. Boston next year.
Yeah, I qualified for 2023 off my debut marathon last spring, which was a 2:43. Goal this year is a 2:38.
Haha. My average is 3:43 with my best being 3:36. Goal for July is 4:15 at worst given I’ve got the half the day before which I’ll be running at 1:45
I've had a great first quarter of the year so far. Mainly, I have been able to do 2 50k races and 1 50k training run and keep a consistent amount of running in along with some biking days with more planned. January - I did the Mountain Mist 50k(30.9 miles). 5h:54m. 4236ft of elevation gain. 62/411 place. Felt rough from about mile 12 onward. Went out way too fast. Pulling 7:30 miles on downhill for the first 3 miles and still fast after that. Didn't have patience. Paid for it. Wanted to be done for a long time. Still loved it though. I've never been so sore after a race. February - I did the Mt Cheaha 50k(29.8 miles). 5h:43m. 5604ft of elevation gain. 11/168 place. My local, home race that I've done twice now. Plan on doing it 10 times total for a special jacket. I paced myself beautifully. Consistent the entire way. Nutrition and pacing were perfect - hit 300 calories per hour. Missed top 10 by 35 seconds. March - I had this idea for a run in my head that kept me awake at night and its all I could think about doing for about 2 weeks. Me and a buddy ran from my house to an amazing taco joint called "Heirloom Taco" in a nearby town. 33.2 miles. 5 miles on road, then 11 miles up and over my favorite mountain on trails, back to road through old downtown(stopped by a record store I had no idea was there!), through an old military base, then down a rails to trails path for the final 8 miles and connected that to the taco place. I parked my car there the night before. Their one of the only places that has legit vegan options on the menu in smallish town Alabama. Me and a buddy did the Barkley Challenge loop at Frozen Head State Park in Tennessee last week. 22 miles and 6500 ft of gain. Its not the same exact course as what the Barkley does(since that's mostly off trails), but it gives you an idea of what its like out there. Amazingly remote, dense, drab, steep in those mountains - humbling. I hit 70 miles that week with 10,400 ft of gain. 13h:51m of total time. I plan to back off this week for a recovery week of sorts. I'm going to do a trail 10 miler in May getting ready for another 50k at the end of May - Yamacraw 50k in Kentucky. I'm doing the 50k Saturday and then the 10k Sunday because why not. I've signed up for the Georgia Jewel 50 miler in May and the Pinhoti 100 in November going for my 2nd finish. Hoping to do under 24 hours. Running is cool.
I love the idea of the Barkley’s marathon but to be honest I would absolutely fucking hate to try and be in it lol. From how secretive it is and all the oddities that make it unique to the actual brutality of the course, I just would not like dealing with all that lol
