definitely make sure you’re hydrating before your run, if you’re not already. I used to get crazy cramps until I started doing that
I drank about two glasses of water beforehand, but I started my run at like 5:30am lol. Maybe more the night before in this case
Cramps for most people are more likely in the morning since you’re body is naturally dehydrated after sleeping. It can also depend on how much warm up you do / what your speed is / what the temp is outside. Usually at least one 8 oz. glass of cold water right when you get up will help. Two should usually do the trick but might depend how much time is between drinking the two glasses and then running.
Easier said than done, but you should be hydrating all day long. If you’re overall dehydrated, two glasses of water might not do it. Especially in the morning. Everyone’s body is different but I’d start with that. You could also look into nuun or powdered Gatorade - more cost effective and you can mix it with water for less calories
To add, not only just water but electrolyte sources as well like some fruits. Coconut water is awesome. I stay away from most all common sports drinks due to their overall garbage contents, but you do you; they might add that little extra sodium you need. My sodium source on long runs are usually Nuun Tablets I put in my water bottle. I have never cramped on a run in my life. (cramped a bit only after one particular 25k race but that's it)
At 4 miles you really shouldn’t need a water belt. It means you’re not drinking enough water before your run. I’ve always heard that your body will be able to “use” any and all water consumed up to an hour before your run. Aka drinking 32 oz right before is likely to do more harm than good.
I drink a truly ridiculous amount of water throughout the course of the day, so I think that helps me when I head out for a run. Might be worth getting in the habit of just drinking more water in general.
Drinking water right before a run is not good for me, which definitely affects my morning runs. The key is definitely consistent water drinking at all hours you can.
The soles of my shoes will no touch pavement for the next 5 months. The little niggles I was having recently have cleared up. Did 50 miles two weeks ago, 40 last week. This week will be maybe 25. Next week will be like 5 miles during the week and then.... 100 mile race. I'm. So. Stoked.
I've been running in Hoka Carbon X while training for a half marathon and they've been so great for my ankle and my post-traumatic arthritis from a car accident 20 years ago. I think the extra cushion in the Bondis will be even better.
Yeah this time of year is when I relax and realize my body isn’t failing me it’s just that I cannot for the life of me run in heat lol. Three summers now you think I would realize this but nope. Summer comes around and I freak out thinking I’m old and can run and then fall hits and I remember how that’s the best time for running long distances
I moved in May and between the heat and humidity here (Raleigh) and the hills around my house, especially after coming from flat Chicago, I thought that I was totally burnt out. Not that I've ever been fast, but I was struggling, some days I could barely get in 5k. But with the temperature change, drop in humidity, learning to run the hills for effort rather than pace (on both the uphill and the downhill), and better conditioning after struggling through that for months, I'm finally feeling it again.
This just made me vomit to think about it. Just ran 20 today and have been nauseous for two hours since finishing it. Marathon in 20 days. I don’t think I’m gonna be able to run the whole thing based on my 18 miler and today’s run, so trying to set realistic expectations.
Did a new personal best yesterday (4.5 miles) at I think a new best pace (7:45) but some massive knot cropped up in between my right hip and glute hours after finishing and then got worse overnight. Anyone have any advice on how to prevent and/or treat?
i dont think its been posted in a while but there is definitely a chorus strava group that y'all should join if you haven't already. https://www.strava.com/clubs/chorusfm
i am very bad with opening strava to track after opening the nike app but Ill try to track more accurately next year
I was gonna try to hit 2,021 for the year. Started out strong and then March hit. My mental health took a hit due to work and caused my motivation for running to drop until my situation changed. But having to run at 1:30-2:30 in the afternoon in Southern California doesn’t make for the best conditions. Currently at 970 on Strava.
