That's so awesome that you were able to give your dad a wave. I love that. Nice time on your half too.

His 25k pace was basically around my fastest timed mile in high school. Pro runners are machines.

Won a 5k this past weekend. The best part was that I was pushing my daughter in the stroller. 18:53, a new stroller 5k PR for me.

Hi runners, have any of you ever had Plantar fasciitis? I play full-court basketball three times a week, and about 7 or 8 weeks ago, i hurt my ankle in a weird spot. I actually hurt it jumping (which I do a million times a week) but the top of my foot/ankle felt like I pulled a muscle or something. I iced it for weeks and like a moron, continued to play basketball. It never really had any major swelling, so I was confused as to what I actually injured. I continued to play bball for weeks with minor to sometimes moderate discomfort in the ankle area.

Fast forward to this past Sunday, I went to the zoo with my wife and we walked for like 3 1/2 hours and I was experiencing some ankle pain (as usual) but then it started going to my actual foot as well. Then the next day (Monday) I went to play basketball and started to get shooting pains in the heel area - but it wasn't 100% of the time, it was kind of random. I stopped playing after about 20 minutes and this week have been resting and icing, but every now and then I will still feel the shooting pain in the heel/back areas of my foot while walking.

I'm not sure if it's Plantar fasciitis because I read that it'd hurt more in the morning or after long stretches of sitting/standing. Mine is just kind or a random shooting pain every now and then. And could occur at night time too.

Any ideas of what this could be? Or how to treat it? I have a hard time resting, because my body is stubborn and I like being active and I feel like I can always run/play through pain.

Doesn't sound like plantar to me, but it definitely sounds like your previous ankle injury did not heal properly due to overuse and now that's causing foot pain. I'd actually recommend a foot specialist at that point. But if that's not for you, I would just be aggressive taking pressure off your foot. As long as you continue to walk and run the problem will persist. You could try otc orthotics like heel cups, but I doubt those will work. Letting foot pain go will eventually lead to back problems because your body is currently overcompensating and thus out of alignment. Again, I'd really look at a foot specialist.

Yeah, I'd see a doctor. You don't wanna mess with foot pain as it will start to cause many other issues.

I think I'm going to give it a full week's rest - something I haven't done in literally years and then see how it feels next week and go from there. I went pretty much all day yesterday with little to no pain, - walked the dog for a mile, did some jumping jacks and felt OK but then it started to hurt at night a few hours after that. Today so far it's been OK with a few annoyances here and there.

Thanks for the advice. I started looking up some local foot doctors just in case.

I ended up resting a full six days while icing on and off like crazy and popping Motrin every six hours. I played basketball again yesterday for about 45 minutes and felt decent. The ankle is still sore, but I'm able to live with that (playing full court bball 3x a week, every week, for years, ankles are always going to be sore). It was the random sharp, shooting pain I was getting that was worrying me. Those have seemed to go away (for now). I really think it was the 3 1/2 hours walking on it at the zoo (in shoes I don't normally wear) that caused the sharp, shooting pains the next day and probably wasn't tied to the previous ankle soreness.

I don't know. I feel pretty good today after playing yesterday. My body has a history of getting weird, nagging injuries and then just kind of going away on their own for no reason. Hopefully, that was one of them.

I ended up seeing a foot specialist this morning, not because of any added pain, but I did start to freak out about long-term injuries, injury turning into other leg/knee/back injuries. Doctor had a little ultrasound machine for the foot, and I told him about my initial injury from months back and his machine confirmed I have some ankle tendinitis that is still inflamed (even though I've been icing for damn near 2 1/2 months albeit never stopped exercising).

He's giving me a steroid to help with inflammation, a splint to wear 2 hours at night, a few exercises to do and to continue with icing. He said I could still be as active as I want, but to just stop if/when I feel pain. He said some of the other injuries I was experiencing (sharp pains in back ankle/heel) were likely due to overcompensating the other injury and walking/running differently. I'm going to see him again in 2 weeks to see if the inflammation went down.

That makes sense you had something lingering. I think getting it corrected with how active you are is a smart move.

Do you have a marble sized bump on your ankle by chance?

No. I've actually had little to no swelling at all anywhere.

Seemed to have stepped up my running to 25-30 miles per week in the past 3 weeks or so. Just back from a timed 10k around the Olympic Park, beat my best time by 2 whole minutes, down to 50:51, very happy! I actually did the first 5k as fast as I've ever done a 5k, so I'm obviously feeling great.

Also, 2 of my completely non-sporty friends have been inspired to take up running so we've been clocking up a few slow and steady miles and they seem to be improving each time we go out. Feels amazing to introduce friends to an activity that means so much to me. They seem to be enjoying it too and it also means we spend a lot more time together which is great.

but does anyone have any experience with a sprained toe? it is actually feeling pretty good right now, im able to bend it and put weight on it. it only gets agitated when i try to slip on a shoe and it gets jammed a little. it is still as bruised as the first day though. i have been taking aleve every twelve hours and taped it to the next toe to relieve some pressure as i think that is all i can do for now. i guess im just wondering when i can expect to start more aggressive cardio like running?

Probably not good to mess with it because that constant pounding and the fact your feet already swell during a run would work against healing properly. Assuming you don't work at home, I would say that walking is all you would want to do. You could probably cycle on a machine. If you tend to tolerate pain and really don't care about it fully healing you could go out there once you feel like it's possible.

Is the bruising on the nail portion or the actual toe on the side/bottom?
