So two people who work on this project I'm on I guess are running athletes. One just ran a 100 mile race and the other basically sent out emails letting us know and also that we need to vote for him to be sponsored by some running shoe company. A couple of us were light heartedly joking about it and one person said that they are doing their first 5k on Monday so they won't be here Tuesday or Wednesday for recovery.
I guess I didn't make it clear that it was a joke because the woman who did 100 miles this weekend took Monday and Tuesday off justifiably so.
Oh I see, I thought you meant that they were serious. I never take time off from work to recover from a race. I've done a marathon on Sunday and been at work on Monday.
It was ok. Didn't have a good time at all, but I'm happy I was able to finish it since I'm really not close to in shape. It'll only get better from here!
I guess. Never had any injuries in them. I extended the life because it was when I had no expendable income. Same here. I ran my first full on a Sunday and was back at work that following Monday. With a break room on the second floor. Good training and an ice bath helped with that.
I run every day mid-morning. I can't take that much time out of my schedule to do it, since if I'm not in front of my computer screen, I'm not making money, but I'm glad that I've started running every day again. I ran in high school, but sort of stopped during college aside from the infrequent run with my roommates or when it was really nice out. I've been doing the mid-morning run every day for about a year now and I feel really great. Wish I could do longer runs, because those can be a great way for me to clear my head, but due to time limitations, I usually just head out the door and run three miles fast.
After I ran the Boston marathon in 2013, we went to NYC and I had to force myself to run since running in Central Park was always a dream of mine. Running two days after a Marathon is brutal.
Yeah, I bet... sounds like a nightmare Of course, to me, running a marathon in the first place is inconceivable.
what do you folks do after runs / exercise? shakes? certain foods? ice baths? long walks? stretching? all of these? none of these?
i used to ice bath after every run but i gave up on it. too painful. i try to stretch but mostly i just eat like i'm pregnant.
I usually eat something high in protein and drink a lot of water. Nothing too interesting. Im q stubborn runner for sure and I don't stretch much.
I stretch a little bit, but I try to eat as soon as possible. Lately I'll get a Muscle Milk right after the run for a quicker recovery. I have more muscles in my legs from my sprinting and rugby days, compared to most runners, so they take more of a beating than normal, so I try to get more protein into me after a run, whether from a drink or from dinner
Friend is doing Grandmas Marathon in Duluth, Minnesota in a week and a half, so him, my friend, and I will be going up that previous Wednesday and camping through the weekend. Then the following Saturday all three of us are doing a tri-loppet race/triathlon; essentially instead of swimming the person will be kayaking instead. I'm doing the biking part; I think we have a pretty decent chance at doing well
Ran today for the first time in about three weeks with no knee, ankle, hip, shin or other body part pain. it was so glorious i could have cried. was so, so, so enjoyable and perfect weather to boot. i was starting to worry if i had a slight ankle fracture since every day was painful and a few times i would turn wrong and pretty much collapse but seems like it was just a bad, bad sprain. glad it's gone, don't want it again.
my 5k ended up being like 2.7 which was kind of a bummer but i got 6th overall with 6:01/mile. i capped it off with a 4miler a few hours later so i feel like i had a good day
Nice work @bedwettingcosmo ! First race of the year under my belt. It was an 8k (5 miles) and I ended up with a 6:10/mi pace for a 30:41 time. Ultimate goal was sub-30:00 but I knew that was likely just out of reach. Realistic goal was top 100 (finished 83rd out 8350) and somewhere between 6:00-6:15/mi. So overall I'm pretty happy. BTN Big 10K is next! Shooting for sub-40:00.
My team won a big event this weekend. The Reno Tahoe Odyssey. It's a 178 mile relay split among 12 runners. We came in first overall with a time of 17:30. I ran the last leg.
