Speaking of half-marathons - I set my half PR last Saturday. 1:35:47 (a touch long - 1:34:33 Strava 1/2 split). Like 7:12/mile Neat fact: it was on the exact same route as my first 1/2 back in 2018 which was 1:52:xx. A paved rails-to-trails. Not bad for a mainly trails guy. I'd like to get that under 1:30. This speed helps me on trails for sure.

(I wore the Adidas Adios Pro 4)

I didn't go out to bury myself as this was a build for a 50k on the 25th of this month. Still challenging for sure.

I walked for like 12 seconds getting a final top off of water at mile 10.4. Up until that point I think that is the longest distance I have even ran straight without walking(or in recent memory). I walk in every run no matter what. Unless its a rep for a workout.

Flying Pig seems like a great event. Id consider it for a full marathon. I think my first true road marathon is going to be the Disney marathon in 2028. Have no real desire to do one, but, still would like to see what I can do. My wife loves Disney adn she wants to go back, so this is in the plan. I hope she doesn't expect me to be walking like crazy at the parks afterwards!

Flying Pig is a blast! Highly recommend running it when you can.

I think I’m going to stay with the garmin tyvm for all the feedback. I’ll likely return the 265 and go for 965. I’m offended the 965 doesn’t have the led flashlight, that was the only thing I loved about the fenix with the very limited time I had it.

Since my November half, I’ve been sick for five weeks straight, thus missing the start of my marathon cycle window, got back in the groove for four weeks and actually decided to full send the marathon anyway, had a cancer scare that led to me not running for four weeks (I’m thankfully very healthy, it was a freak side effect that indicates cancer in some cases, so I had to go through the testing process), which led to me deferring the race to next year.

the race would’ve been this last weekend. I got oddly very sad about missing it when all the posts started showing up on my feeds from the local running community people I know.

but three weeks ago I finally started to just get a few shorter runs in. and everything feels a little more normal. and it’s free to not necessarily be training for anything at the moment. but I’m definitely ready, post my vacation I leave for on Saturday, to kick it back up a little. especially if I ever want to BQ. I’m down 20 pounds since January (thanks tirzepatide), so hoping being back down at a better racing weight I can’t get going.

Getting used to the garmin. I’m going to keep it. Stats and data are rad and the battery life feels miraculous compared to the ultra.

Gonna go watch a bit of Boston today to hopefully give myself the FOMO I need to qualify this year

Signed up for my first marathon in Philly this year. Had to pull out last year due to injury. Coudnt be more stoked to do Broad St Run for the 3rd year in a row in 2 weeks.

Yeah, I am being extra careful at the moment since I had a recurring Achilles thing that put me out most of last year. Trying to build a solid foundation before I start attempting real mileage again

Anyone run Boston this year? Looked like the conditions were just about perfect, which had me feeling some jealousy given how hot it was the year I ran it. Makes me want to get back to Hopkinton sooner rather than later to give that race another try.

I ran this year. Goal was sub 2:50 and I just snuck under by one second lol. Passed Matt Choi between miles 22 and 23, which felt especially great. He did appear to be running by the rules for a change.

Congrats! Beating your goal by one second at Boston, I'll call that some expert pacing.

I mostly executed how I wanted. My nitpicks are my first mile and a few post heartbreak. Left a little time there. But I was happy with holding back on the early downhill miles and I think handled the Newton hills well. I was supposed to be running more aggressive in the post heartbreak miles, but I didn’t quite do that, which is why I barely got under my goal for the race.

To your earlier point, the weather was perfect. Some may mention the sun but I didn’t think it was an issue. It was going back and forth between sunny and gray overcast. Wind was a slight tailwind but not really noticeable imo.

I think letting the first mile be slow, especially in a major. It's just so crowded at the beginning.

Anybody got recs for running / five panel hats for a Size 8 head (64cm). I've ordered from Odd Job hats but I'm not too keen on anything they have up now.

Everything from Roark rules. They have a running brand within the clothing brand. By far my favorite hats. You can find them on secondary retailers for way cheaper than on their site. Big Roark guy. High recommend for running gear.

Nike putting so much effort into getting a sub-2 hour run over the years, and Adidas is the first to actually do it, lol

This one is ringing some "too good to be true" alarm bells in my head. Unheralded 25-year-old Ohioan runs a marathon debut that puts him in the all-time top five for American men.

The Flying Pig Marathon is this Sunday and I had to get new shoes yesterday. Kept pushing it off hoping I could finish this season with the same pair but during my long run yesterday it was obvious it was time. Got the same brand and model so not worried about it really, more annoyed I had to spend money this late in the game.

A week out from a marathon, how long of a long run are you doing?

Depends on the mileage you've been doing and your taper preferences but I've typically done around 13. Not gaining any fitness at that point obviously, but keeps the engine warm.
