I’ve been sick since Thanksgiving, so making the realistic decision of dropping my April 12th full to a half because I’m just running out of time considering I can’t physically run further than 4 miles yet. Whatever this thing going around is no joke.
Apologies if this isn’t allowed but I wanted to post here in case anyone is looking for races to sign up for this year. I was selected to be a 2026 Pig Works Ambassador. If you’re unfamiliar, Pig Works is the organization that puts on the Flying Pig Marathon, the Queen Bee Half, the TQL Beer Series and the FCC3 in Cincinnati. Say what you will about Cincinnati, but the city shows out for races, especially during Flying Pig weekend. Which has become one of my favorite weekends of the year. If you’re thinking of joining the fun for any Pig Works race this year, be sure to use the code CHANDLER26 when you register for a discount.
Ran 7.5 miles last night. Longest I’ve run since the Chicago Marathon back in 2018. I’m definitely feeling it today, but I’m pumped to get those long runs in before my Half in April.
I’m not much of an impulse purchaser, but this was an instant buy when I stopped by to pick up some running nutrition.
Due to the impending snow storm, I am now doing my long run (11 miles) on the treadmill tomorrow morning. Snow isn't coming until the afternoon and planned to push through the cold originally, but I don't want to be out there when it feels like -10. Hopefully there are some good movies on lol.
The treadmills at my gym have built in card games. I've found it helps distract from the time, especially if you're running at slower paces.
Also in the treadmill camp. Not the worst thing for a speed workout. Tomorrow is 17 on that thing though. Only thing that is a little annoying is that even with setting the run as an indoor/treadmill run and the calibration at the end, the discrepancy between what the tread says and what my watch says still being off.
I need to switch to a better gym. It's hard to justify paying more with how little I use my membership. Can't beat PF's pricing lol.
Also in the PF camp. Is what it is haha. I either use our treadmill at home or go to the gym. Just kind of depends.
I learned recently that my gym treads lets you record workouts by connecting to your watch. Might be worth it to see if the treadmill has a button for bluetooth connection or something. It runs through the Apple workouts app instead of Strava on my watch, so you have to import over to Strava.
I need to look into this more. My Apple workouts are synced to Strava already. This would be a good win. Edit: Looks like Coros should connect to Planet Fitness treadmills. Thanks for the tip!
Thought this might appeal to folks in here. An app that maps your Last.fm listening onto your Strava runs so you can see which songs really got you going. Tried it with one of my workouts from last week. TrackMap - See Which Songs Played During Your Runs
I’ve always been a casual runner. 5ks here and there, the occasional 10k. I recently got into the Broad Street Run in Philly which is a 10 miler. I am equal parts excited and terrified but feels great to have a goal
Wild! Looks like just before the what would be the 2nd place guy, got slowed down by some women running with a Kenyan flag on course. Then at the same time basically he followed the pace/video vehicle the wrong way losing a few seconds. Thats so unfortunate. Same millisecond type finish back in 2021 at a local 100 mile race close to my house. 2nd place comes up in stealth mode with his headlamp off and noses out the lead guy. https://www.facebook.com/share/v/19iLVvsFwF/?mibextid=wwXIfr
Last October i did a 50k and had some Achilles problems pop up during and after the race. I managed to get it to subside and go away. Then, same foot, maybe in January sometime I had some plantar fasciitis pop up. That has been a thing since then. Nothing crazy, I can run, doesn't hurt, but I feel it pulse up from time to time even not running. It was bothering me a bit one week, then the next week I pulsed up my milage a bit to run 75 miles in the training week and it just.... went away. Pounded it to death I guess. I did another 50k Feb 28th. After mile 16 my plantar was hurting to where I couldn't land in certain ways or it was hurt. On top of that, my shoe was rubbing my outside ankle bone to the point I was limping. Addressed it during the race several time and at least got it to be manageable to finish. My fav race. I've done that one 5 times. It was my 2nd worst time. Long run yesterday my ankle shoe rubbing came back. Well, its not shoe rubbing, its peroneal tendonitis. Of course it is. I've had it before. Sometimes worse than others, I've got a 100k race on Saturday. This one is special because I turn 40 years old at 7:29am during the race(race starts at 7am). I've got a good bit of friends and acquaintances going to be out either running the race or volunteering. (also a 100 mile and 20 mile option - its a 21 mile looped trail course). I've got an appointment with my PT tomorrow to see if we can get this thing managed enough to get this race done. Luckily, I don't need to run this week. I have the fitness I have. I'll just bike and see what me and my PT can figure out. I do not want to drop out of this race - before or during. We'll see how the next few days go.
Start working on building up strength in your feet. Do something like toe yoga (big toe extension while holding down 2-5; and then the opposite). Also walk around barefoot as much as you can.
