I think the feature I would be most interested in with premium would be the ability to edit a workout. Would be nice for either runs or races where something is off/missed for one reason or another. I am also probably more interested in that feature since I have an Apple Watch.

Not being able to edit is insane. It drives me nuts.

Didn't do a lot of running in 2024 after doing 2 x fulls in 2023 (one of which being a half one day and the full the next) but I’m back into it this year and doing Sydney on 31 Aug - first year of it being a major, I couldn’t not do it. Did 30km (18 miles) this morning and feeling good.

Wolaco is running an End of Season Mystery Sale

I bought their sprint half tight and distance half tight to try a few months back and love them. As a big thigh guy, they really help keep all the chafing to a minimum. Just put in for two mystery shorts and two mystery pants, used a Welcome15 discount code, and got all four for less than one normal pair of pants.

Not sure if anyone else has ran the MCM, but the changes they announced for this year are brutal. Definitely glad I didn't try to run it again this year. There was already no spectators at the starting line last year because it's at the Pentagon, but they closed the finish line and the finish line festival to everyone but runners this year. It's like a mile walk to the nearest metro from the finish line, too. Doing all that solo, post race, with no one at the end to celebrate with is terrible.

My dad has fond memories of doing that race a few times. Obviously a much different race and situation back in the late 90s to 2010s. Those changes sound pretty terrible. There was already no desire to go to DC with everything going on since January. I do feel bad for the race organizers trying to put this race on with the current administration.

Rough day! I’ve had a niggle in my foot which I was hoping would be ok. Became too much around the 30km mark. Could’ve quit but persevered and walked the rest. Except for the final 300m - always sprint the finish!

Now for a month in the US on Wednesday!

Has anyone here used these headphones? My Beats are dying and Costco has these on sale for much cheaper than replacing the Beats or switching to AirPods.

Haven’t run in them but I plan on getting a pair. I tried a friend’s pair on not that long ago and liked them enough. Sound quality is good, but obviously going to be a step down from something enclosed. I also don’t think they had the pro model. Just the regular openruns. I was curious about the band being floppy or extra, but it really isn’t noticeable. I was skeptical, but now will relent and get a pair bc AirPods and Beats aren’t designed for the amount of sweating in rigorous exercise.

I've never tried the SHOKZ, but I know people who swear by them, especially for running in bigger, more urban environments, or in races.

Re: running with AirPods, my first pair finally died this past weekend after three and a half years, which I consider to be a win. I covered a hell of a lot of miles with those in my ears. If you're running with AirPods, though, I recommend these to avoid situations where they are just coming loose/falling out of your ears all the time: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08BH8Z9S8/?tag=absolutepunk-20

Costco has them for $75 right now, so I think I'll just pull the trigger.

Garmin and Wahoo are the ones I see the most often in my running circles. I can provide links if you need.

I sometimes use one. It’s an old garmin one that came with my forerunner 215. Thankfully it’s still compatible with my Venu SQ

Panicking about (minor) health stuff so I just signed up for not one but two half marathons, lol. First one is on November 2, so training should be interesting, but I had a similarly tight turnaround for the last half marathon I did back in May and I did fine.

The second one is in December. Doing a cold half marathon sounds miserable but it’s Christmas themed so it should at least be silly.

I’ve never gone less than a year between half marathons so doing two back to back like that sounds but I can’t imagine it being that bad? And if I manage to do them, I’ll have done three in the span of like seven months which I will feel kind of cool about.

The November one is the only one scaring me a little because I haven’t been running quite as regularly as I usually do, but I think as long as I start training, like, today, I’ll be able to do it.

"There was an undeniable cuteness when runners referred to Strava and Garmin as "Mom and Dad" last week. The two brands are now engaged in a legal battle threatening to end their longtime partnership, leaving runners and cyclists hoping for a peaceful resolution.
For the uninitiated: Garmin smartwatches have become as ubiquitous as iPhones among marathoners and other serious athletes, offering an easy way to track their distances and racing times. Strava, similarly, is the go-to platform for athletes' outdoor resumes, showcasing their best times for all to see. In other words, runners and cyclists typically track their activity on Garmin and then upload it to Strava.

But now, a quarrel between the brands threatens this longtime status quo.

On September 30, Strava filed a lawsuit against Garmin in a Colorado court, alleging that two of Garmin's features had infringed on Strava's own patents, violating an agreement between the companies. The first feature at issue is "segments," or stretches of trail that allow users to compare performances in the same route. Strava is also suing over Garmin's use of heatmaps, which are visual representations of the most popular places to run or ride.

The lawsuit has surprised many in the running and cycling communities. After all, Garmin has been Strava's most important business partner for a decade. And Strava's lawsuit makes some major demands. The brand is seeking damages, but also wants to stop Garmin from selling watches that include the claimed patent infringements.

It's unlikely, however, that Strava will convince a court to prohibit sales of Garmin products. A close examination of Strava's legal claims has puzzled even many of its longtime defenders. DC Rainmaker pieced together a chronology of patent history for both of the features at issue in Strava's lawsuit. His conclusion? The lawsuit doesn't make a lot of sense.

"Heatmaps and the generation of routes across them were simply not a Strava invention, nor were they new," Ray Maker wrote, and made a similar argument about the "segments" feature. "This just seems like an incredibly bizarre move that’s almost certain to backfire."

That's certainly the reaction of many online comments as well. Matt Salazar, Strava’s Chief Product Officer, made a Reddit post further explaining the company's decision to sue Garmin: "On July 1st, Garmin announced new developer guidelines for all of its API partners, including Strava, that required the Garmin logo to be present on every single activity post, screen, graph, image, sharing card etc...We consider this to be blatant advertising."

Most of the comments on the Strava subreddit, however, were not supportive of Salazar's argument — or Strava's lawsuit.

    Why It Matters
    • Runners Upset: "Have you seen the news that Mom and Dad are fighting?" California ultrarunner Andy Glaze said in a now-viral TikTok video. "I'm sitting here with my thousand-dollar watch and my $80 app and thinking, can we just get a family meeting and start getting along again?"

    • Larger Context: Many Strava users have called the platform hypocritical for its lawsuit against Garmin. In 2024, Strava changed the rules for many brands that partnered with it. That meant that some of its longtime partners, like TrailForks, could no longer import Strava activities onto their platforms."

Almost a six minute PR on the 5K if the course distance is correct and my watch distance was wrong. We did run under some overpasses so it’s possible.
