    Give what you can.

What do you listen to when engaging in strenuous physical activity to forget how much it can suck sometimes?

Here's what I'm working with as of today.

I listen to all sorts of rock or prog metal, which keeps my brain extra busy.

I got excited about contributing to this thread until I quickly realized I neither run nor workout. I should probably change that.

Haha well feel free to contribute whatever you listen to to get yourself psyched for anything. Job interview? First date? Pizza is ordered and on the way? Let's hear it.

And if you do start working out or running, hopefully there will be some good ideas in here you can snag.

Seems like a solid resource, but I'm way too controlling to leave it up to a radio kind of thing. That's my deal though. Buttttt I will say that there's a running thing on Spotify that can sense your pace and plays epic movie music that gets more and more intense you go. It's pretty cool but I can't do it without cracking up.

I always start with “Ramble On” by Led Zepplin. Then "Assassin" by Muse. "Survival", "Hysteria" and basically, all songs my Muse.

9 years later and I run exclusively to podcasts haha. It’s a much better mental tune out for me on long runs versus any sort of music.

I've tried with podcasts/audiobooks but there's something about my attention span while running that it thrives on breaking the act down into smaller pieces.

It's funny, all my non-running workouts are to podcasts, but for running I typically prefer music. I ran to some podcasts this weekend for the first time in a while though and didn't hate it, especially because I was doing a slower pace.

Typically though I just run to whatever album is currently catching my fancy, whether it's a new release an old favorite or a forgotten gem. It's usually something faster/more upbeat, so a lot of hardcore, metal, pop, or punk.

Sometimes, like on a cold fall or winter morning, I don't mind something slower but that has to be something I really love and can immerse myself in.

I enjoy listening to Fela Kuti while running. It helps that his songs are long af and they have a constantly driving groove that keeps me going
