Guitar players - Above Me. So am I crazy or is the lead riff played at like 3 different speeds throughout the song? The riff never appears to be as fast as those first couple times.

 

I think you're correct. I always felt like I rushed it and played too quickly the second time around because it's a hair slower than the intro.

I remember Clark had an interview that sort of confirmed my suspicions. He talked about tracking that record and mentioned that he didn't believe they used a metronome so he struggled to keep time with the fluctuating tempos of the drums. And then when it’s played after the chorus at like 1:29 - it seems like it’s slowest of all.

 

Pretty crazy that you were commenting about playing this song and then they posted a video of Clark doing a playthrough of it with the hashtag "abovemechallenge". You going to upload your video? haha

Bumping this again to say that Taylor (second bass player) posted on his Instagram story a photo of himself, Scott and Clark with the caption “wrap party”….. Rufio related? New music? I’m curious now.

Is that the original bassist?

 

Jon Berry (OG bassist) second from right. It wasn’t the same after he left. His bass lines were instantly recognizable. 1985 is my favorite rufio album , time to revisit! \m/

 

OG lineup was so great (basically my favorite band) but I liked the Anybody Out There lineup quite a bit too. Taylor contributed some pretty great bass lines on the Mercystreet record.

Truth. I wouldn't hate an entirely re-recorded version. Even the remastered version sounds low quality, lol.

 

MCM is an amazing pop punk album that I really wish had a remix/remaster. You lose so much of the bass and drums and it deserves its time to shine. Worked for the Wonder Years on No Closer

So happy about this. After I speculated that they were working on something, I was a little worried that the re-record would be the only thing coming.

I’m so excited they’re putting out something new. I really thought it would never happen because of how much Scott seemed opposed to it.
