Jaws is regularly mentioned in GOAT discussions. Do the right thing is obviously timeless and a great commentary but, Jaws, man…I think a lot of people here are underestimating it

 

What are we voting on?

Are we voting - which do we like better or which is a better film?

Define 'better film'....

No, don't. This is a tough one though, for me... Both are great films, both have their pros and cons (I think)

 

I almost forgot to vote this round and seeing how close this matchup is I’m glad I remembered. Both are basically perfect and transcendent works from two of the great American filmmakers, but Do the Right Thing is bold, radical, and to this day not many films are able to speak so clearly, even Spike himself has had trouble topping it. Do the Right Thing is in contention for greatest American film of all time and could win the bracket for me. Jaws is incredible, but I’d have it a tier or two below, and that’s not a slight.

If someone comes in late to tie it I will change my own vote to avoid it.

I’m surprised this site likes Jaws this much. Most of my friends growing up didn’t like it and called it a boomer movie

 

it’s fantastic and maybe the best blockbuster ever but the wrong movie is winning
