INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS, a surprisingly satisfactory portrayal of catharsis through violent revenge. One of the all-time misleading marketing campaigns, we mainly follow a young Jewish girl as she decides to take down the Third Reich for killing her family and forcing her on the run. All of Tarantino's excesses and references work in a coherent whole here, arguably his best film.

There Will Be Blood could be the great American film…but then he went and made an even better one!

 

I'm not sure how to vote on this one yet! Both in contention for top two best American films since 2000

 

ugh, some brutal matchups this round. These are both 10's for me and my choice could probably change depending on the day. Feeling There Will Be Blood more right now though.

 

Inglourious Basterds is Tarantino's best film, but There Will Be Blood might not be Anderson's best film but it is still better. I guess that definitively means Anderson is better than Tarantino.

 

TWBB is my favorite film. easy vote.

 

Tough decision, but TWBB. Just a dang classic. Inglorious is more of a *fun* theater going experience, but man oh man is TWBB just a flawless piece of cinema.

Inglorious Basterds. The performance from DDL in TWBB is great, but I didn’t enjoy the film as much as I did with Inglorious Basterds.

 

The way Daniel Plainview's attitude changes when the potential buyer tells him to spend his time taking care of his son is so quick that it really feels like he internalized that character. He can impose on people and command people, but even the softest response earns his wrath.

 

With 70 percent of the vote, There Will Be Blood will face The Tree of Life in the Round of 32.
