Butch Cassidy is great but I think Le Bonheur is a lot more interesting.

Shocked that Le Bonheur is shutting out Butch Cassidy but so very pleased, savoring it while it lasts

 

I don't think Le Bonheur was my first Varda but it was early on when I started checking out her stuff, and it was more complicated, emotionally, than what I was used to, even in the French New Wave. I enjoy Butch Cassidy but have never been swept up in George Roy Hill's stuff the way others have been.

Not that it would have changed the result, but I watched the wrong Le Bonheur. I thought it looked old, but the torrent said 1965.
