2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY, the beginning and the end of the question "what good is science fiction?" Stanley Kubrick was among our greatest directorial chameleons, veering from war films to black comedies to horror and redefining the genre forever. It is here, though, that he creates a towering work that any film that dares to look to space must compare itself to.

MOONLIGHT, a defining movie about the tragedy of being brought into this world weak, afraid, and helpless except for the possibility of protection and guidance from others and the pain we feel when we are not given that care and acceptance. Barry Jenkins is interested in those little moments when anyone, even the most hardened among us, can let our guard down and feel, truly and without ironic detachment or reservations.

Gotta go Moonlight, but 2001 rules obviously. Would love to try the latter again in a theater someday.

Moonlight is beautiful, but the ending sequence of 2001 is a major moment in cinema that everyone needs to experience once.
