Round one is here. 62 years of albums with 2 convenient ties. What album will come out on top? For this matchup, we start with: (4) Jimmy Eat World - Bleed American vs. (61) Depeche Mode - Violator
This might be the easiest decision so far, haha. Never clicked with Depeche Mode, but Bleed American is one of the best pop-rock albums of all time. And if we're going to have three Radiohead albums and god-knows-how-many Beatles albums in the next round, I'm not going to worry about there being too many JEW albums.
Didn't Ride and Cocteau Twins both put out their respective classics in 1990? What a miss on that year haha. (edit: and Goo! wow) Anyway, JEW by a mile.
This could really go either way for me, both albums have a handful of songs I really enjoy but neither have I ever really consumed more than a handful of times in full. I'll give it to Depeche Mode since it won't make a difference anyway
“Enjoy the Silence” alone is arguably better than any individual JEW song, but I never really have the urge to put on whole DM albums.
Depeche Mode rocks in small doses but I've tried the deep dive with this album specifically a handful of times )it should be right up my alley) and it just never fully clicks. Plus, it's Bleed American
JEW all day, I tried to get through that Depeche Mode record and it really was not doing it for me at all
I’m not surprised that Bleed American is winning this at all. I am however very concerned by the lack of love for Violator
This is a tough one as Violator is probably more influential than BA (and is a phenomenal record itself) but...I'm more apt to listen to BA so my vote goes to Jimmy.
violator has alot of MEMORABLE radio hits that resonate and have a richer value with a wider audience. with that said: front to back, bleed american is a more cohesive, more enjoyable, and overall winner for me in this round.
I just screamed "no" in the office at the sight the poll had gotten closed 29 minutes before hahah, then I saw Bleed American crushed it anyways, so all's good.
